Poll: Your First Katawa Shoujo Girl

So, I'm in the middle of playing Katawa Shoujo for the first time, and I've ended up on the Emi arc. I just ended up there, not intending to specifically go after her. I was actually thinking of going after Lilly but I ended up running with Emi and things kind of snowballed from there. Not that I really mind, it's a good story and Emi is a well written character.

That brings me to my question. Who did you end up with the first time?

First time I played I did Hanakos path. It was good, and I really enjoyed the writing. However, I think that my favourite would have to be Rin. I can't really specify why, but I just felt more drawn in to that story than any of the others. I have gone through all the girls and their happy endings, and I'm not entirely sure I want to go through the bad endings. I guess I should at some point, but I feel like I'd just be way to sensitive for something like that... I'm kind of a wuss when it comes to those kinds of things.

I went for Lilly in my first playthrough, but I ended up on Emi's path because of that one choice you make on the running track. I reloaded though, so I don't really count it. But from my understanding a lot of people accidentally end up on Emi's path because of this.

I went for Hanako. I find her extremely shy demeanour to be relatable as well as adorable. I managed to get the good ending with no save scumming (Unlike SOMEONE who save scums ALL THE TIME!)

My second playthrough was with Emi, and on my third playthrough I will go for Lilly.

My first playthrough I just naturally ended up on the Emi arc. Not that it was an issue, because Emi's lovely and she's well-written. Second playthrough I went for Rin because she's just kind of odd and absolutely beautifully written (although I guess that's a thing for the game as a whole).

Currently I'm on the Lilly arc, very slowly working my way through it.

I was aiming at Lilly. But my very first time playing, I ended up with Emi. Then I started using the flowchart to guide myself to certain girls. Emi > Lilly > Hanako > Shizune is the order of girls I went with. I still haven't gotten through with Rin. I just can't summon the energy to go through the game a fifth time so I can experience Rin's arc. The 'Bonus Gallery' doesn't motivate me, either, because I already know it's a boatload of nothing.

I was halfway through accidentally going down Emi's path, but the mistake was spoiling the game for me because I was emotionally detached from Emi instead of the attachment being deepened by my choosing. So I pulled out and got a guide to make sure I followed the path I wanted to follow (Hanako) and I'm so glad I did because that path means so much more if you want to choose it.


My initial attachment has caused me problems on new playthroughs though, because I always end up wanting to go down the Hanako path again. I found the Lilly path really hard because Hanako was so involved in it

I feel like most people end up with Emi because they don't want to die and do what the doctor tells them to.
That plot point is probably the biggest flaw in the VN, IMO (well, besides Shizune's entire story. BURN!)

I ended up with Emi on my first go. I was going after either Shizune or Hanako, but seeing as how I wanted to listen to the doctor, I ended up going down Emi's route instead.

After that, I went down Shizune's path, then Hanako, then Rin, and finally Lilly.

I ended up with Emi the first time, well because I thought she was cute and as a side bonus you get Hisao running.
I liked the other characters but I would still say that Emi is my favorite out of all of them.

First time? Emi. So yes, I did try to keep up with her while running.

Though oddly enough, looking at the flowchart, I was one decision away from Shizune's route for my first time. I overestimated my chances at winning Risk from a defensive postion while I held Australia. It was a fortunate occurrence, though. I wound up doing Shizune's story last, and it felt like a good one to conclude with. Since she and Misha are basically always present, no matter which route, learning about them with the weight of the rest of the game was surprisingly effective.

For what it's worth, I did Emi->Lilly->Hanako->Rin->Shizune. I don't think I'd be able to pick a favorite story, though Hanako stands out as my favorite heroine (which, considering how much I liked everyone else, says something).

I was aiming for Hanako, but because I didn't want to die, I ended up with Emi.

I got Rin my first time, though I didn't finish it immediately. I saved near the end of Act three because it was getting way heavy, and did the Hanako and Lilly paths before returning. I wish I had just finished it right away though because I was just blown away by it.

I like all of them a lot though, except Shizune, but that may have just been attrition taking hold as she was the last one I did.

I'm pretty sure most people who ended up with Emi didn't intend to at first. The choice that sets you on her path sounded more like something you're supposed to do because of your health. I thought the game would be keeping track of how much I exercised and if I didn't do it enough I'd die before getting deep into the story. That was like the only flaw with the game; it's ambiguity of mechanics. So yes I ended up with Emi when I really wanted to go for Shizune. Funny enough I ended up on Rin's path the second time around while still going for Shizune.

I actually thought that the running thing would end interestingly.

I went with Emi first, before I found out that the game wasn't just some porn dating sim.

And then fell in love with her.

She is just about tied with Hanako and Lilly, for me. Part of the reason Emi is so attractive is because I've been with girls like her. I have felt that roller coaster of feeling firsthand. The emotions, both positive and negative, are so raw, so powerful, so passionate. Hanako/Lilly are obviously the far more logical choice for long-term happiness, but a relationship with Emi is still so enticing because of how strong, if short-lived, it is.

I usually like doing natural playthrough's my fist play in VN's, and I ended up with Emi. I honestly wanted Hanako but Emi ended up being tied as a favorite with Hanako.
