Basically, i've been playing DoW2 from the start and I haven't REALLY been able to find a race I can go to in any situation. Being a fan of the board-game, I used to collect the Tyranids due to their alien look and the way they used brute force to consume everything in swarms but I haven't been able to find a connection to them in DoW2.

I have found myself liking the look of the Chaos, but I have never been able to just go to them when I want to enjoy the game. Imperial Guard are too relative to me as a person and the Eldar are way to fragile looking for my taste (although psychic skills are awesome) and then the Orkz, although funny, are just a bit to basic.

Chaos are generally messed up which is pretty cool and I suppose Tyranids are most familiar to me, but they still don't feel right. I'd like in the future for them to add the Tao as an Eldar style imperial guard and i'd also love to hear from this community.

What is your favourite race in the WH40K universe?
What race do you play as in the games?
Any ideas on why I can't relate to my favourite races? (CSM + T)
Anything you'd like to see added to the game in either SP, Last Stand or MP?

Also, please don't attack people for liking one race or another. If someone likes the Tau or Necrons, let them but state your opinion as to why you don't like another race. Also, Tau do look pretty cool...

Thanks in advance! :)

EDIT: I couldn't include ALL of the races like SoB, Inquisitors, Space Wolves, Dark Eldar and so on because it only let me choose 8 and I decided to only pick the MAIN races. Sorry to all the people who couldn't vote for other races! :(

Also, I understand that some people are having problems getting in to games and stuff on DoW2, so if you are looking for some people to join, ask and you might get some replies. I haven't personally had any long waits but I know some people can be waiting for between 5-20 minutes.

tyranids definitly. though the way they are done in retribution, and dow 2 in general sucks.
nids are a hoard army, and dow 2 is about small squad based stuff, and the nids would have fitted in so much better in dow 1.

That is maybe why I can't relate, the game is more about tactically placement of squads than rushing en-masse, maybe they should increase the popcap a little?

The Space Marines seem a bit too generic for me, So it's a toss-up between the Tau and the Chaos Space Marines.

would help probly. its just, for me, tyranids are about big hoards of gaunts with big stuff amongst it. in the game you dont get that feel with the pop cap. also, the nids campaign in retribution sucks so bad, having only one hero, and squat all wargear

For DoW II id say the race i use most is either Space Marines or Eldar becaus they just seem to work best for me. Now in the tabletop i play the Space Wolves (before any1 asks i played them BEFORE the new codex so not just to get on the bandwagon) gotta love those space werewolf vinkins :) . as to why you might not relate to the races in DoW II it might be becaus of balance issue's your tactic just cant be used or the units you like arent in game.

The Necrons.

Seriously, a robotic skeleton race that always slowly walks menacingly towards you. Never running, just walking while a giant fucking pyramid that explodes everything that comes near it spits out hundreds more.

Tau are my favorite race, by far.

Peace through superior firepower, and dinosaurs.
That is the greatest description of the Tau ever.

Here's an internet.

Space Marines, I love the Dark Angels. They are just awesome!

As to why you may not feel a connection to "Your race", the game really doesn't follow any trends of the tabletop games. Space marines are weakened, Elder are powered up. Imperial guard are useful..ish.

As you said you liked Tryanids, it's no wonder you don't feel like using them, they are a rush tactic army. Like the Zerg! DoW2 really doesn't accommodate for them well. there just a cool enemy to fight.

Tau for me, since they seem like the least abominable choice out of the races - they're about the only ones not on some kind of genocidal crusade!

That's DoW and the tabletop game, though. I didn't want to play DoW2, since it stopped being a strategy and started being an RPG, essentially.

And they have the Nightbringer, which is just plain awesome. And even once you have killed them THEY CAN COME BACK TO LIFE! When I get the money I'm gonna start a collection for sure. I haven't played much Dawn of War yet but I'm already in love with the necrons.

Favorite Race: Imperial Guard. It takes a special type of courage to fight soulless automatons, genetically altered super-warriors and sanity-blasting daemons (to name a few) wielding little more than a flashlight and t-shirt. Also, Baneblades are awesome.

Races I prefer in the games: Imperial Guard for the first Dawn of War, Space Marines for Dawn of War II. I don't play the tabletop game, so I have no preference there.

Ideas why you don't like Chaos and Tyranid playstyles: With the exception of Cultists, Tier 1 Chaos units are very similar to Tier 1 Space Marine units. It's not until subsequent tiers that things really start to get different with the various daemon units. Perhaps the fact that the faction is Chaos Undivided rather than following one particular god might play a factor. As for Tyranids, I have to agree with the assertions others have made. Due to DoW 2's limited population cap, it just doesn't seem to live up to its reputation as a "swarm" race. I honestly think they would have fit better in the first game, with its focus on fielding larger armies.

Things I'd like to see added to Dawn of War 2: Make the "Annihilation" win condition more desirable. Most people play point games because building HP is ridiculously high. Given how harsh and unforgiving the Warhammer 40k universe is, it feels weird to win a match when there's plenty of enemy units still running around. Relic could reduce building HP for Annihilation mode so base destruction won't be so arduous. Also, some additional maps and heroes for Last Stand would be nice. It would be cool if some of the maps had nothing but waves from one particular race.

Yeah they dont say that in DoW games.... They do however say "Who's dat talkin?!" when you select them ;)
