So ass a complete n00b to the escapist, and it's forums i thought i might ask a question.
What is your favorite movie, and why is it a classic in it's own right?
I figure a lot of us here on the escapist have seen our share of movies so what are your top five, or the favorite and why is it that? would you recommended it to others?
I'll post as I go.
I leave it to you movie lovers
edit: I changed "angst" to horror
My favorite movies are
Saving Private Ryan, Forest gump, 2001 a space oddesy, Kill bill volume 1, shawshank redemption and, well actually there are a lot so i can't go into detail here.

Wait, for the poll, do you choose your favorite genre or the genre of your favorite movie? My favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption. Great acting, great characterization, great pace...it's just incredibly well made. I would recommend it to anybody.

Where's horror? My favorite film is A Clockwork Orange. Why? Because it was pulled from shops in Britain for thirty years because it was too violent.

I love how "Angst" is a genre. Can anyone think of some good angst films off the top of their heard?

More on topic, The Usual Suspects is my favorite movie of all time. Great acting, great visuals, a story you won't forget, and a twist that has people talking 10+ years after the movie debuted. Brian Singer will always be redeemed by this one masterpiece, even if he did give us the horrible Superman Returns.

also, some films that i can actually explain why i liked:

a Clockwork Orange, "i'm singing in the rain, just singing in the rain"

the Saw series, because the twist always slaps you in the face.

the butterfly effect, just really liked the film. can't say too much without spoiling the ending though.

a beautiful mind, the thought that every thing you think you know could be in your head. wow.

As I.

But above that, I still adore The Incredibles for reasons unexplainable.

Band of Brothers...I know not technically a movie, but epic nonetheless. Any of the Monty Python movies were pretty epic as well.

Fight Club is my fravourite film, Its probably who of the most well thought out and most underated movies out there. The whole narrative of the movie was excelent, the plot was briliantly crafted too, The action choroegraphy was suprisingly realistic for the few fights that were there. I dont know what to class the movie as though, Comedy?, Drama?. Thriller?, Mystery?, Action, this movie has all of these qualities.

And now that ive shared that with you then I might get into trouble, becuase the first rule of fight club is, You dont talk about fight club.

Fight Club is an incredible movie... So is V for Vendetta and Equilibrium. Those are my three most favorite movies in no particular order. Honorable mentions go to There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men and The Big Lebowski.

Either A ClockWork Orange or 2001: A Space Oddysey both ones blew my mind the first time I saw them, masterful, not only plotwise (props to the authors of respective books for that), but the sound, the acting and composition. Kubrick was an excellent director.
