In case you haven't already heard Youtube will be adopting a more Hulu-ish look on the 16th.

What do you think? Personally I think they'l have to change there catch phrase from "Broadcast Yourself" to "Watch big name companies broadcast adverts for there stuff oh there are some other people too". Not quite as catchy.

Bad. YouTube is just fine how it is. Or even worse off than it was at first. I like the first YouTubes. Same with FaceBook. It's just fine the way it is and people are just getting used to it. STOP CHANGING EVERYTHING.

It would be a shame to mostly lose it to the big companies but for them, it's the smart thing to do really. I guess it makes sense for them to try and get some more money in, but the adverts in particular would really bother the casual user. I'm sorry to read this.

So basically, anything official (and no doubt unofficial but popular) will be walled off inside 'premium' services (I hear micro-transactions calling) whilst at the same time having tons on intrusive adverts rather than passive ones you can ignore.
The things Youtube has become famous for (piracy, awesome home made stuff) being pushed to the sides.

In the long run: End of Youtube, or at least end of Youtube being domninant streaming site.

In the short run: Rapid rise in popularity of private sites similar to existing Youtube.

Free movies and TV shows? Sounds great to me. That's how I saw all of Screenwipe and Newswipe and part of Dollhouse. If they have good shows I haven't seen I'm definitely going to watch it.

Youtube is fine... why do people keep changing things that have no problems?

They did the same with Facebook a few weeks ago. If it works, why change it?

To be honest, I'm fed up with YouTube.

Ever since Comcast and WMG started sticking their litigious noses into things, it's all gone downhill.

Oh, and not to mention advertisements that obnoxiously block 20% of the screen and force you to close them.

Advertisements in the first three sections (Feature Films, Shows, and Music) are tolerable, and would probably be required for licensing. But ads in user-created movies? Screw that. Honestly, I've seen people acclaiming this as a "great" move by Google. Of course if Microsoft did the same thing, those same people would be going "OMG Micro$oft is so greedy!".

...I prefer Hulu.
Thanks.
As a director on youtube, they send me email asking if I want to promote my videos(which are PBR and SSBB videos). So they want me to put ad's in my videos of Pokemon and Brawl...why? A few people actually have their battles on that featured videos full of ads. I'm not sure if Hulu can upload cuz I'd make an account there.

EDIT-Ignore the same *deleted* Half asleep.

I remember just a few years ago when the only ads on the 'net were the occasional banner ad, now we have this intrusive in-video ad bullshit. Goddamnit, Fuck you youtube.

And this is why Youtube on track to lose 470 million in 2009 [http://www.multichannel.com/article/191223-YouTube_May_Lose_470_Million_In_2009_Analysts.php]. They simply are not making money in their current format.

So long as they don't regionalize videos like Hulu I'll be fine with it.
They already do! Official music videos are frequently unaccessable in the UK following this despite between YouTube and the musicians...group (Can't remember their name).

Not sure what Hulu looks like, so I can't say 'yay' or 'nay'.
