Hi People!

I know how much everyone likes Zero Punctuation, but does his review really sway you to buy or not buy the game? Just wondering but would love to see what you think. Please Vote!

See, I didn't for the first couple, then I played the games and agreed with him! So, if he thinks a game blows, I normally don't touch. Saves me a lot of cash and if I really want to play it, I'll rent it first.

I don't really let his reviews sway me to buy a game or not. I take what he says into account but if the game appeals to me then I'll probably buy it...after waiting a few months for it to come down in price. I'm just tight like that with most games.

I listen to him because I find something intensely funny about a fast talking video game fanatic with a British accent. His opinion might have some backing to it but really his job is just as much of bashing games as it is playing them.

Most of the time yes. 90% percent of his reviews, i have already played the games and found myself going, "omg thats so true" like with his recent one of dmc4. the only time where i didn't agree with him was with mass effect. probobly just personal biases completely opposite one another, since i love rpg's and yahtzee mostly hates them.

I bought both Portal and Psychonauts after watching these reviews and I've found both titles to be unutterably brilliant. The only other game he's reviewed that I actually own is Bioshock, and like him I thought it was cracking fun but rather stripped down and the 'moral choice' aspects felt terribly shallow compared to those in titles like Deus Ex. Also, thanks to whatever Machiavellian copy protection regime 2K Games have got the damn thing steadfastly refuses to run after I uninstalled it for a while then put it back on. Grr.

Anyhoo, wandering slightly from the point here- while I don't share Yahtzee's love affair with Valve (I find the Half Lives of this world a little too dependent on the fine work of the Conveniently Placed Box Company and their friends Exploding Barrels R Us and the blatant puzzle setpiece nature takes me out of the experience somewhat) nor his allergy to turn-based combat in RPGs we generally seem to want the same things from our playing experiences so I value his opinion quite highly. I think I'll take a few shelves out of the fridge so I can fit my PC in there and run Crysis once it comes out in budget since it got quite a good writeup.

EDIT: Also, hello.

I'll say I'm not going to be buying Clive Barkers Jericho nor some of the others his really beaten. He shows alot of the bad points in the games and after seeing the dirty side to most of them it really put me off. For the better no doubt, now I don't have to waste my money. Most games I was always expecting not to like such as DMC4 and a few others. But Yahtzee is confermation. Yeah, I think he has a pretty clear say on things.

I think there's a ton of merit to what he says; the reason all of his review end up negative, though, is because video games are rarely of the eloquent nature he--as well as any non-gamers--expect from an artistic medium.

So in the end, it's fun to laugh at his rants about the currently relatively st00pid video game industry and their tendency to produce inferior pieces. But given that that he's offering an opinion that tries to ignore previous game clichés and trying to review a game solely for what it is, it won't stop me from playing a good-quality game that might do little to think for itself; though that game is likely to be lower on my priority list.

Put simply, I'll still play Final Fantasy XIII.

Precisely.

Hell yeah, he does! Like Possum Man I tend to wait for things to come down a bit in price before getting them, however my first brand new purchase in a long time has been the Orange Box, based on generally good feedback from one and all but definitely Yahtzee's review was the deciding factor.

It's not that I'm an easily impressed fanboy, but his reviews make a lot of sense and he doesn't ever hold back to spare anyone's feelings, but usually acknowledges, however grudgingly, the positives of games he reviews as well. PC Gamer & Penny Arcade are my usual points of reference- I trust their opinions as I have come to trust them more than many magazines and websites which seem to exist solely to shill the next portion of knobcheese-and-chips to the unsuspecting gamer public, I'm happy to say Yahtzee has joined the triumvirate (yeah, I know, PA is 2 guys and PCG a whole bunch of them, enough semantics) of reviewers whose opinions I actually consider before parting with my hard-earned.

I fully intend to buy psychonaughts once I have the proper capability. His mass effect review made me want to play the game even more. His SM:G review inspired me to foot in 20 bucks so my little brother would buy it. He made me re-consider the call of duty series worthwhileness.

I nearly bought Jherico, but was saved at the last minute by yahtzee.

I eagerly look forward to Zero Punctuation every Wednesday, but I'd no more use it to pick games than I'd use the Colbert Report to pick candidates. Entertaining, witty, and with a few kernels of truth... but my tastes are not his, his are not mine, and anyway his seem to be exaggerated for comedic effect.

Frankly, I'm kinda disappointed to see how many treat infotainment seriously... and I'm not restricting that to just ZP.

I watch it for the "inside joke" aspect. He makes a lot of jokes about games, movies, music that I can't make in polite society or with people who are not geeks.

While he often speaks the cold hard truth about a game's flaws, (broken record)I mostly listen for the comedy. (/broken record) He's a pro game reviewer, but him and I differ in our tastes in games.

For example, I gathered he didn't like all the words and talking of Mass Effect. Hell, the song at the beginning just screamed that. Personally, I felt it was the best bits of the game for me when I was talking in one of those "Dear God, fuck no!" moments.

ZP is just one of the factors I take into consideration for what I play. It'll never stop making me laugh though. Never.
