So... There are people in the world that can, and do share love among groups. There are married couples with open relationships because they understand the difference between love and lust.

There are groups of people that love each other as a couple would? Triples, if you will. (I need to TM that word!)

Something I've never really understood, and no one has ever given me a satisfying answer too...

Why is Polygamy (Having multiple marriage partners) illegal? (Strictly US, I don't know the stance on other countries)

Is it purely a prudish religion thing? (The answer I most often get, but NEVER satisfies me... ever) Or is there actual legal backing behind it?

And of course, the word I really mean is whichever covers both genders, as "Polygamy" is 1 man, multiple wives.

Woman can have as many lazy useless husbands as they would like as well. I didn't mean to imply it was only right in the reverse.

the problem with Polygamy )in my opinion) is that sometimes the term can be used to describe men that gather women like sheep. Which is what happens in Saudi Arabia and Dubai.
It;s so irregular in the western world that the legal system did not accept it and adapt to it.

I'm only against the idea if it's abused.

I spend pretty much everyday with my fiancee, we've been together for 8 years and we're intimately familiar with each other both physically and mentally.

I can't imagine being able to maintain that same level of intimacy with 4 wives.

Polygamy is illegal here in the UK.

There's no real harm in it I suppose, but I don't really like the idea. Seems kind of... excessive.

First of all, in the US, marriage is a legal standing for taxation. Multiple marriages would cause some sort of taxation singularity.

Aside from that, it has, historically, most often been used as a means to oppress women. While the actual practice doesn't necessarily do so, there is a rather nasty historic president.

Of course, typically speaking it has no bearing on actual relationships - if one wishes to have a multi-partner relationship, then the individuals can do so - they just can't get married.

Besides, we're still working on gay marriage here. One step at a time.

My girlfriend is far too protective for us to be polygamist but im a quick to love kinda guy. I have all my own views on that. However, she is perfectly ok, as long as none of the girls are brought up to her level. She is the woman i will marry, they aren't I flirt, make out and love other girls but not in the same way. Call that what you will but no one has the right to judge the way people love, as long as it doesn't harm anyone.

As to the why is a 3 (or more) way marriage illegal, well the right wingers and religious types argue marriage is between a man and a woman and that's it. The issue of gay marriage kicks up a massive stink (it is here in the Uk at the moment) so can you imagine what a 3 way marriage would kick up?

Oh good. Sorry, that just threw me for a second. Yes, I'm familiar with the lifestyle. Too spicy for me to handle every day, but I sometimes enjoy a light sprinkle.

Anyhow, you actually do demonstrate a very good point - you live what one might consider a polygamous lifestyle, but because you are not married to any of your partners, you aren't getting any legal trouble over it.
