I love the Assassin's Creed series, and I love all the upgrades they gave 2, and now brotherhood, to make gameplay and story better. But I must ask myself this question...What about Altair? We have all this story to Ezio's life, but Altair's seems kinda bland when compared to his descendant (this said while Altair is my favorite). Just curious if anyone else is interested to seeing more story to the life of Altair.

Altaïr (say it right!) was my dude. Ezio just annoyed the crap out of me. I'd be interested more in the AC games if they'd either go back to the Flying One, or just a new character (also, please don't make him a white guy, we have plenty of those. Honest).

I understand character development, I really do, but can we give our guys more than one likable trait at the beginning? Being a good older brother doesn't sell him for the first two hours of the game.

Actually, several games touched upon Altair's story after the first game, all for handheld consoles. Altair's Chronicles for the DS and AC: Bloodlines for the PSP both continued Altair's story. I never played either, but I heard they were bad, although they did fill in some holes, such as when Altair and Maria got together (Seriously, this totally came out of left field for me).

He was a rather bland person, really. He really just killed people and frowned. His big character development was becoming less of a douche then he was at the start of the game. At least Ezio had some personality. But that's just my opinion.

I prefer Desmond to them both!

I think if the devs knew how huge the game was going to be (in terms of popularity) they probably would have developed Altair more. I'm assuming this is why they developed Ezio so much, to make up for the lack of Altair backstory.

He was a bland character. That's what an assassin was, a guy who killed people. That's it. I have serious doubts they had rich interpersonal experiences beyond killing someone or getting the information they needed to kill someone.

Quoted for emphasis. If you really have to know more about Altaiir, play oe of those games. Otherwise, maybe you could just read the plot summary on Wikipedia.

Actuall Altair did get some more story in AC Bloodlines for the PSP..in fact it was because of Altair that the codex pages in AC2 came about. He contributed a lot to the universe of number 2

I agree. Also, Desmond would make a great modern day assassin. Just a thought.

I liked Altaïr as a character to play, better than Ezio. I just liked his seriousness a little better considering his way of life.

But Ezio's story was much more amusing to watch play out.

Nope, the story of AC doesn't revolve around one ancestors, but of all the ancestors of Desmond and how they have each effected the brotherhood, the Templars and the artifacts in their own way. There isn't much point to focus on one Ancestor in my opinion.

I liked Ezio better personally. Obviously he could be a bit of an ass at times, but he had a real personality, that made him interesting to play as and observe. Also, I think Brotherhood may just be an excuse to improve the mechanics, make a quick buck, and try out multiplayer.

For more on Altair's life, many of the codex pages Ezio can find and take to LDV for decryption appear to come out of Altair's diary - detailing the Assassins' history between the first and second games.

How is that a spoiler? Obviously Altair knocked boots with somebody, or else there'd be no Desmond - and ancient middle-eastern technology being what it was, there's a pretty good probability that person was a woman.

Who cares? It's a minor plot point anyways. It's not like I said that Rodrigo Borgia was really Hitler in disguise.

Oops, there goes the ending to Brotherhood!

I'm with the OP on this one. Certainly preferred Altaïr to Ezio, but then I also preferred the Third Crusade setting to the Renaissance. The overall aesthetic of the first game appealed to me more: the ceremonial losing of the ring finger, the harsher times, the geographical setting of the game.

Ezio, while well drawn, struck me as a privileged womanizer who was handed a mantle of greatness by way of his father, uncle, and Da Vinci. Being an orphan and working as an assassin during the Third Crusade, Altaïr was much more of a hardcore adventurer.

Assassin' Creed brotherhood is merely an extension to Ezio's life. After this they will be making Assassin's Creed 3 in which you play yet another descendant. I would like to see more of Altair, perhaps a bit of extension of the story in which he studies the piece and performs more legendary assassinations.

I didn't like Ezio much and now I have AC1 I love Altair.
