right im the kinda guy that listens to pretty much anything...from Beyonce...to Hollywood Undead...30 Seconds to Mars...to Westlife and i see posts where people are harrasing popular music, and i hear people talking about it's like its another plague.

i wanna know...y people hate it, i mean some singers get accused of being a fake artist (because they dont write their own material bla bla bla) but they acctualy do, Alexander Burke for example (winner of X-factor 2009) even stated that her songs have come from her diary. yet she gets accused.

i just want to know why people hate the popular type of music, not just because they don't write their own material...i want more reasons cause that reason has been done to death =P

It's their opinion? They don't hate all music, just maybe a genre. Most "Popular" music nowadays is pop shit with Beyonce or Miley Cyrus or The Jonas Brothers... *Shudders*

People just want to be unique. If everyone listens to Beyonce, then you're just one of the millions that do. But if you listen to Tally Hall (and if you do, I love you), you're different and unique. People just hate thing that are popular for some reason. It's actually not very cool to hate something just because it's popular because some of it is actually not that bad.

Honestly, though, the bands you listed I don't really like. Not because they're popular, it's just that their music isn't the greatest in my opinion.

Because I don't like the sound.

Really, there is nothing more to it.
I would say that the Killers are a popular band. I mean, my dad knows who they are.

I hate it 'coz it suck major wang. It's generally boring. The songs are empty and meaningless.

To me popular music doesn't know which genre it wants to go into so it ends up being a pathetic mixture of many. The lyrics are dull are the music is pretty same same the whole way through.
Another thing I don't like about pop music is that the companies that are running the show readily build up and discard artists for the money.

The other thing that shits me is the over use of the word "Rock" in these songs. They call they're music "rock music" and it's not(Miley Cyrus springs to mind).

Pop music is about the money not the music. That is why it sucks.

Most of the really popular music sounds all generic and uninspired to me. Overall I find the lyrics usually breaks down into the same sappy bullshit no matter who you listen to. And this isn't to say that all popular music is written by the record company but a lot of it is unfortunately.

But that's just my observation.

I don't berate people for their choices in music unless they berate me over mine. Really, if you like it, by all means listen to it. It's not for everyone but nobody really cares.

That was only after T-Pain. See, that guy comes on the radio with an auto-tune and makes millions of dollars so everyone else thinks that he's popular because he used an auto-tune but really he was popular because he sounded different. Ironically, everyone tried to sound the same as him in hopes to get money. It's like how nearly every unpopular 80's metal band sounds like a crappy Metallica rip-off, nearly every unpopular 2000's "artist" sounds like a crappy T-Pain rip-off. And his music was pretty terrible to begin with.

For me it's not about the artist or what they stand for or any nonsense like that.

For instance, U2 are a really great band, and Bono is a twat. That doesn't mean I'm not going to listen to U2, since they're still a great band with some good songs.

Because it's popular, and people want to seem edgy by disliking popular stuff.

I mostly hate the popular music around where I live for these reasons

A) It's just a low number of words and sentences, repeated over and over again. The only "variety" being that they sometimes take breakes between saying them or say the same word several times in a row.

B) The first one, but with excessive swearing or it being overly violence and/or sex oriented.

C) When the lyrics are so simple, some people can't help but sing them, which makes my heart hurt more then the original song.

D) It's just a guy or a girl screaming loudly into a mic.

Aha, you sound like me music wise.
People wouldn't dare follow trends.
I accuse my friend of this, she used to bum MCR, and loved their last album, then everyone else bummed them and she doesn't like them any more.
When everybody listens to a band, no on wants to listen to them.
I guess they feel proud about having a unique taste in music?
I don't give a damn if the band/artist don't write their songs, if they're mega popular or if their fans are 15 year old fanbrats, if I like the music I'm going to listen to them.

There's a song on the radio now where I guy says "I'm a holy roller and I've got a spaceship."

If I need to explain any more then I'm afraid the point would be lost.

Oh, I generally refer to pop music as the music of the decade. So I'm referring post 2000.

Also, a lot of pop before then was actually good.

well, because there's a lot of it, it sounds pretty much the same, and, here it comes, you can't escape it.
Unless you're looking for it, you probably won't hear Opeth, but if you don't like rap or something like that, you can't escape it. it's everywhere, and if something you don't like gets thrown in your face every nanosecond, you'll start to hate it.

Example: imagine you get beaten on your shoulder. nothing special, just a friendly punch.
you don't mind, it doesn't hurt. now get punched a million times on that exact spot, and your arm will really fucking hurt. by then you'll also want to punch the guy who's punching you in the face.

I dunno, because it feels like the majority of pop music is created by committee, by executives with the sole intention of making money (you cant blame them, its their job) rather than making good music. Its because the popular scene reuses and replicates and hardly ever comes up with something new and intuitive and different. Its repetitive and samey.

I will not judge music solely because its 'popular', i will like music if its good but the majority of it is pretty shit. Very few artists write their own music, and if they do they dont do it very well. The OP said that Alexandra Burke gets accused of not writing her own music, but i highly doubt that she actually wrote much of her own album. Having an input does not mean they wrote their music, but I dont know how much she wrote as I never bought her album to find this out. However, I doubt her input was substantial as she is signed under Simon Cowell of all people! :p lmao.

Reason for my dislike of modern music:
Weak lyrics (I'm looking at you "rappers")
Auto-tuning has become so prevalent that it can sometime be difficult to distinguish it best I have to hear it so much.
Little or no talent.... besides have nice tits and ass, that role can be filled by strippers (come to think of it that is usually what they are.
Really fucked up videos and fashion

Because most popular music is commercialized, over-wrought, and repetitive. Most new music lacks soul or depth.
