So who else is about ready to stop coming to the site if the popup adds, groupon toolbars, and the like do not cease? I have been coming to this site for years now and I expect more from The Escapist than this.

I completely agree, I thought it was just me being unusually grumpy though. When the pop-up ads hit me, my arrow keys no longer work till I click back in the main window as they take the focus off - a bad thing considering I scroll through the site using the arrow keys!

In top of that, that stupid bar along the bottom... I hate every site Ive come across with it as it generally just gets in the way. Im sure since its appearance my browser has started to hang more when browsing Escapist (2 times in the past half hour for example while trying to watch the E3 vids).

I think I recall reading somewhere that if you subscribed it got rid of the ads, can anyone say if this is the case? I do like the Escapist purely because it groups all the news I want to read and dont want to have to find another site that does that so I'd possibly consider subscribing to avoid these annoying in-your-face ads.

It was bad enough with those ones that show before the videos as sometimes I get a few seconds into the video before it catches up and makes me sit through a 30 second ad about Land Rovers (Land Rovers? Really guys? You aware of the demographic of Escapist is? :p)

yeah the new social networking layer is REALLY pissing me off, and not only because i'm an antisocial Luddite who doesn't use any social netowrking sites... the meebo thing or whatever it is just keeps getting in the way. If there is some way to disable it or turn it off I will give 3 whole internets to the person to explain how. any maybe a cookie.

Im kind of perplexed that they decided that one share button is not enough for video content, so they felt now i should be able to drag and drop it... The bar at the bottom is annoying but at least i can hide it, unlike the facebook social plugin. I'd love it if these scripts didn't have to load at all though. I don't use ANY of that. I have never shared content like this and i don't plan on starting to do it that way (on the few occasions that i wanted to do that, i'd just copy and paste the url... what's wrong with that?).

If you click on the right hand side of it, it minimises and seems to stay minimised between visits (providing you dont wipe session info and cookies) so thats a small blessing! Hope this helps.
