What do you think of the idea of Portal 2? Does it appeal to you? I loved Portal but to me, it was not screaming for a sequel. I had this thought with Bioshock as well. When a game really satisfies you: tells a good story, brings you to an exciting climax, and then resolves itself quite neatly, many developers create a sequel to cash in on the name that was made popular by the first game. These games aren't necessarily bad, but to me, they just seem like they really don't have any place being a part of a series.

Do you think Portal 2 should exist? And feel free to list other sequels that you felt didn't have a place sharing names with the original product.

With Portal 2, it seems Valve's putting too much work into it for it to be considered a "cash cow".

2 complete story modes, one single player, and one co-op. Complete with new ideas, game-changing items, and plenty of other stuff. Not to mention that its Valve's first game on the PS3, and it'll be the first console game to use Steamworks.

Its not a cash it. Looks like some serious work went into it.

However, I get what your saying. Plenty of games seem to be getting sequels when they don't need them.

I'm curious, so yah, I'll pick it up. Mostly I just want new portal-based puzzles. I won't pay much attention to the plot.

I agree with you that Portal 2 is definitely not a cash in and will undoubtedly be fun, and Valve's track record with sequels will back that up. It's just that the concept behind Portal seems to have been fully explored in the first game, and wasn't really in need of reiteration.

Yeah, I get what your saying. And for the record I agree(mostly). I was pretty surprised when they said it would have a sequel. But after hearing about how much they'll be adding to the portal mechanic with the paint(or gel, or whatever they're calling it), light bridges and whatnot. Not to mention the co-op where there'll be 4 portals to play with. Seems there's still quite a bit left in this concept.

In my opinion, both Bioshock 1 and Portal 1 are good enough that not even the sequels could ruin them. Also, there's a chance that Portal 2 will actually be pretty good.
