Okay look. I don't know if this is real, or just a well put together prank, or whatever. It is, after all, midnight where I live.

But I was up on YouTube and this video popped up (no, I don't know how to encode it):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urza2sbU68Q

So curious, I followed the link and read the story. It sounds like Half-Life to me, and it's apparently from the head writer's own blog. He just randomly posted it. And I have to say, without anything else to go off of (thanks, Valve, by the way...), this seems pretty solid.

And while I'm saddened by the fact that we shall apparently never get to actually play this, I admit that I at least finally have some sort of closure. Yes it ends on a cliffhanger, but at least it finishes the current story, something that Valve seems intent on never doing ever.
I also like the small digs at the end about how much Valve has changed since the writer started working there.

Anyway, thoughts anyone? I liked the story and would have loved to have played it, but I guess this is better than spending the rest of my life not knowing anything.

Meh. Stopped giving a shit years ago.

Stories in games have gotten immeasurably better since Valve were making games.

From the writer who is NOT working for Valve anymore. Seems very much him being like "Its never going to be made, might as well make use of all this work I did".

Though Tarantino thought the same of Hateful Eight and performed public readings of it like, a year before he ended up making the movie anyways.

I like the story - it wraps up things rather nicely, and it manages to include what would have been some interesting set pieces and mechanics (a ship that flickers in and out of existence? Time fracturing?). I wonder if we'll end up with some sort of mod based off of it.

It seems plausible, and right now it seems like the closest thing to an actual ending as we're ever going to get. Valve clearly doesn't care anymore and if they did, everyone involved in the original games has long since departed(no doubt to seek developers who do value their talent). As much as I'd love to see Ep 3, I'm cool with taking this as the resolution to the series and making my peace with it.

Similar to what the OP says, I'm fine as taking this as the conclusion to the story. Course it's easy for me, but I figure that this is better than nothing.

I read it... one thing...

why would Alex shoot Dr Mossman? From what i saw in HL2, the differences they had were pretty much brutally resolved when Alyx realised she genuinely cared for her dad during the scene in Breens office.

She also was worried for her in Episode 1.

I dunno, that's a heck of a swing unless they are implying she was a double, double agent.

Just a bit hard to swallow "You want to keep the portal open, I want to destroy it like my dad did... you loved him, but (BANG) tough!"

Meh, never going to happen anyway, the old Valve is gone, the new valve exists, Gaben sits on his throne of money and cheeseburgers and barely notices anything happening anymore. All the "drive" valve had to innovate and explore? Gone.
