I was wondering if there was some kind of add-on or mod you could download for msn messenger that would enable you to chat to your friends while you play games, as right now i am having to alt-tab out a game to respond or not play the game entirely. I understand steam and x-fire offer this in-game chat service but my friends are unfortunately quite stubborn and refuse to download them...

Anyhow, does anyone know of a workaround to get msn messenger to work in-game similar to steam chat?

don't play games when talking to friends?
Or play your games in a window instead of fullscreen.

Why would your friends refuse to download Steam?

You'll have to play in Windowed mode and run MSN at the same time.

Xfire has a thing called social network manager, it lets you sign into messenger through xfire, so you can talk to all your friends in game. It's under the tools tab I believe.

i has ventrilo server so me and my friends can chat =3.

Skype? It's free =).
Isn't vent a challenge to set up though?
It's very simple. You find a hoster (which is actually quite afordable if you find the right host, at least in Norway I found a good offer), go trough a simple purchase (just like ordering stuff from a webstore or subscribing to an MMO, real easy). Name your server if you ordered one, note down the details and install the ventrilo software. Then you open up ventrilo, enter your server info, log into the channel as admin and create as many chatrooms as you wish, with whatever names and subcategories you wish. You can also have an AFK section that automatically puts people there if they are inactive for a set amount of time. Even I could make it work, and I'm NOT good with computers =p.

Most good hosting sites have a detailed guide on how to do it, aswell as a mail support that will answer you quite quickly. So if you have a bit of money to invest and a few friends you frequently play with or talk to, I'd recommend it. It's a voice-chat tho, not a text-chat =3.

Look in the right place and you can even find hosting for free. Your channel doesnt stay around after everyone leaves but if you are just using it for chatting then it is a good option. Game Arena in Australia does this you could probably still use their servers if you are from somewhere else. Also has a Teamspeak server with the same set up.

This is the info you need

Xfire has an MSN mod.

Although back when I used it it wasn't perfect, but this was before I realised talking to non gamers whilst gaming is just a terrible idea and deleted the program anyway.
