I've been meaning to get more into forum RPing both to improve my own playing skills as well as for simple enjoyment of collaborative story telling and I was wondering...

Would anyone be interested in playing an RP set in a Post Apocalyptic Western setting of my own devising?

The setting is well established, as it is used by my friends and I for our offline roleplays, so I know the setting inside and out.

If some people appear to be interested I will post more details on the setting. For now lets just say that it's a Post Apocalyptic Martial Arts Western with some Steampunk flare influenced by John Woo Movies, Anime and Gangster Flicks.

EDIT: The main reason for not posting better details is that I am DEAD tired today, and I don't want to try and write eloquently when I can barely stay awake unless someone is reading it.

I'll post the current player list here (I'll add you once I've approved your character):
Bling Cat
Alotak
killer8531
conqueror Kenny
7dollarbill
ThePoodonkis
Carty
J.Galt
Bermyduck
LewsTherin

Roster is Full

That sounds good. if you start it, count me in, it sounds... different to normal (i.e starwars, cyberpunk) RPs.

Sounds like a pretty good idea. I recently procured a copy of Fallout and I think a Post-Apocalyptic RP would do very well, count me in.

I'll lay down some basic plot details...

It's been roughly 1000 years since a nuclear holocaust and humanity has rebuilt itself to roughly the tech level of the early 20th century (except with more prevalent use of gas engines, people use motorcycles instead of horses, there are cars and busses etc.)

The main setting is The Southern Wasteland Region, a large area that stretches across Florida, Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, California, Nevada, Utah etc. This area is largely ruled by The Syndicates, mobsters who operate in the wastelands and are based in the larger cities in the North Eastern area of the United States.

The Official Government is known as The Federation, a facist powerhouse that siezed control of what was left of the United States in a large war of expansion against the Southern Wasteland Republic and the Western Empire.

There are few automatic weapons around as the government has outlawed them, so all automatics are acquired through the Black Market.

There is a lot of old Super Technology from the pre-holocaust world, known as "Black Technology", which permeates the wastelands. The Federation makes use of some of it, crimelords can acquire it etc. It is very dangerous but fortunately very rare.

More will be forthcoming as my brain accesses it (it's currently in sleep mode or something).

Hmm, just a quick question: Could you be some sort of scavenger, someone who searches for black tech to make money, but does other things for a living, mainly criminal, as black tech is so rare? sorry, i love characters like that...

Here are some notes on Character Making...

Think of this as sort of a Wuxia film (Hero, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon etc) except set in a mutated version of the Old West... also people tend not to be able to fly, in this setting physics are often bent, but rarely broken.

Overall your character can be ANYTHING but should always have a unique and personalized style of combat to acompany it. Here's an example of a character my Girlfriend came up with for the setting...

Niki "Boom Boom" Topolovich, a 6'8 Siberian/Mongolian woman dressed in a long brown trenchcoat. She specializes in explosives use and use of her incredible strength. She has the remarkable ability to avoid explosions caused by her own bombs. She's also INCREDIBLY lazy, rarely putting forth any effort to do anything. She tends to drift from place to place, taking the occasional job when she runs out of money etc.

EDIT: I'm off for lunch in about 5 minutes, I'll try to collect my thoughts and get a good Character Building Guide preparred for you fine people.

hmm, haha, interesting. don't know how much i'll be able to contribute in coming days since i do this at work, and im going on holiday soon, but i'll participate when i can. hmm, gotta redefine my character from the other thread to fit this world. Were llamas wiped out in the holocaust or did someone drag one into a vault or something?

Name; Alotak,
Age; 16
He wears a tattered waste coat and torn shorts, his feet are tough on the bottom beacuse he has no shoes.
After being brought up with a family who lived in the swamps of florida, he moved to the wastes and now moves between the various towns and settlements in search of work.
He has developed webbed fingers as a result of the nuclear radiation, which allows him to swim at greater speeds than normal through the lakes and streams of the Craters. Haveing grown in the swamps he can climb well. He has a Katana which belonged to his family before the war and has been passed down through the family, he was trained by his father in its use.

My god we hae changed the Forum... we have created a new catagory.

A good start, overall I would prefer if we only have one or MAYBE two mutated characters, as they are not common, but if its essential to your character setup I will allow it.

Alotak, Louisiana is pretty much an ocean/wasteland and there really isn't anything like the bayou's anymore. As well it's been 1000 years or so since the Bomb, so it is unlikely that he suddenly developed this mutation. If you are open to suggestion he might have come from a tribe of mutated humans from the Mexican Gulf, who have sort of "rapid-adapted" to their oceanic habitat, developing special adaptations to make better use of their environment. Like the Katana bit though, I'll also lay down a few more concrete character making rules once I've conveyed the basic setup but you can make those changes as you feel like it.

Bling Cat, being a scavenger is perfectly fine, you might want to make him a bit more of a "fortune hunter/Indiana Jones" type to more aptly fit the universe but it's up to you really.

Bermyduck, oddly when your character showed up in the Battle RP I was like "The hell, it's like he came from my universe..." and yes there can be Llama's, it doesn't matter how they survived, but they did, in fact my namesake character has Llama's on his poncho (my GF designed his costume, she likes Llama's)

BTW, here's a list (in no particular order) of the various influences on this universe, to give some perspective...

Cowboy Bebop
The Castle of Caligostro
Nausicaa
Kung Fu Hustle
Trigun
Kill Bill
The Man With No Name Trilogy
Unforgiven
The Quick and the Dead
The Indiana Jones Trilogy
Last Man Standing
The Magnificent Seven
The Dark Tower Series
The Bloodstone Series
Shoot Em Up
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Deadwood
Firefly

There's a lot more than that, but you should get a decent idea from this list.

Name: Nathan Tieksh
Age: 27
Description: A hero in the village he comes from, Nathan comes from a village wracked by poverty. he sends money from his income there every month, just to keep it afloat. He works finding Black Tech and then selling it to the highest bidder. While everyone in his village sees him as christ returned, outside he is very morally grey. While his finds have heralded some huge medical advances, he has sold many a powerful weapon to The Syndacites, and indirectly caused many deaths. He has a dog called Luke who is a golden labrador, and he fights with a black tech weapon he never sold, namely a small pistol type weapon which fires a small 6000 degrees fahrenheit beam, capable of killing. He can also attach a sniper scope to the pistol. That however uses lots of power, and must be charged up a lot. so he also uses a small UZI he bought on the black market, and a traditional western six shooter.

Occupation: He works finding black tech, but given how rare that is, hes also a part time bounty hunter.

Motivation: He is motivated to save his village from poverty, and get rich.

Personality: He's arrogant, and slightly uncaring. hes also a great actor, which may not help him in battle, but it means he can lie and persuade people very easily.

Allegiances: Wealth, Family, His Dog

Fighting Style: He Fights with guns normally, but if hes extremely outnumbered, or the battle is turning against him, hell pull out his heat pistol. he has also trained his dog to help him fight.

Skills and Abilities: Charisma, Survival (i mean like outback survival, like how to make a fire from two dry sticks), Animal training, cooking, Gunslinging, Acrobatics, Stamina( like running stamina)

Deficiencies: Engineering. he hunts Black tech, but he doesnt have a clue how it works or what it does most of the time. Academics.

Equipment: A six shooter, An UZI, a Heat pistol, A cowboy hat, A bacpack with camping gear.

Personality Quirk: When around people he acts dark and mysterious, but when with animals he becomes very playful and almost childish. this includes Luke, his dog, so in fights hes often giggling like a schoolgirl.

EDIT: i edited it to fir with your character framework.

Okay here's a list of Character Creation Essentials that I'm going to work with. So fill this out and we'll start fleshing out the cast.

Name: Your Character Name

Occupation: What does your character do?

Description: A description of your characters personality.

Motivation: What motivates you, what are your goals.

Personality: A rough look at how you act and what you are like.

Allegiances: 3 Things your character considers most important. Think of them sort of like alignment, an example would be: Honor, Life, Friends or on the flip side Myself, Wealth, Power. They go from Most Important to Least Important (though they are all important).

Fighting Style: Describe how your character fights

Skills and Abilities: These are going to be rough approximations and abstractions of your characters abilities, you may have as many as you want but there is no need to go into extreme detail here. You should only put it under Skills and Abilities if your character is very good at it. Here are some examples: Gunslinging, Mechanics, History, Survival, Climbing, Agility, Strength, Charisma, Forgery, Lock Picking etc.

Deficiencies: People just plain suck at certain things, list them here. These are actions/skills your character will fail hilariously at when you attempt them. You should have 1/4 as many deficiencies as you do Skills and Abilities.

Equipment: You can have anything basic, including weapons, but I have final say on what does and does not fly by way of weapons.

Lastly, characters in this universe sometimes very strange and wacky, try to throw in a few funny and quirky personality traits, I'm not that big on characters that are too dark or serious.

Now... Bling Cat, excellent concept. I might place some limits on a powerful solar gun, it's also going to REALLY make you noticable when you use it as things like that are NOT very common, just to let you know, it's a very valuable weapon.

A Note on Black Tech.: This can be anything from an Assault Rifle with a laser sight to a surviving Nuclear Weapon to a Power Suit, it is extremely rare though and it's not a staple of PC's to be carrying around Black Technology.
