Hello.

Recently my xbox of 6 years RRoD'ed on me. I use it a lot for playing games with friends and watching netflix. I believe I want to invest in a new system because I still get enjoyment out of it. I am unsure of which to get though. Should I get a new 250GB and find a way to transfer my data, buy a 4 GB and get an external HD, or buy a used console and keep my old 25 GB HD?

Any suggestions would be nice.

Sincerely,
Naetun

First of all, I suggest you try turning on your RRoD'ed Xbox in about a week. Mine did a RRoD last month and a couple of days later, it magically came back to life.

As for getting a new one, it depends what kind of games you play. If you play online a lot then you should get a big HD so you can install your games.
I expect that if your console was 6 years old then it's a Core/Premium Xbox- In that case, you can transfer your old data into a new HD via a special cable that I forget the name. It's a bit of a pain in the ass, but you can always go to your local video game store and then can help you out for that.

The old generation were good consoles, my Core is 5 years old and going but... The new ones are really better and *supposedly* don't have the overheating problem the old ones had.
I hope I kind of helped? Good luck!

Burn it.

You could try buying the same Xbox Model and replace the Hard Drive from your old one into the new one and keep the other as a back up or whatever. Before anyone says its a special HDD, box etc use some logic. (AKA Its the SAME so transferring it has no problems)

There's also a few guides on YT with step by step on doing so.

First up, scratch the idea of a used console. (just my personal oppinion, who knows if it'll just RRoD after a few weeks anyway)

It really depends on how you use your xbox, theres nothing wrong with using an external drive and most of them are just as fast as the Xbox ones. You could even buy a bare-minimum console and survive off your old hard-drive and a big enough USB untill your ready to decide on getting something bigger.

If you get one of the new slim variants apparently theyve weeded out most of the 'xbox suicide' issues. But those are probably more money than its worth.

When I got my RRoD and my disk drive ate itself, I kept her alive for as long as i could by modding it, I installed all my games to hard-drive so that my disk reader wouldnt have to do much. But im a crazy one.

Ultimately Id say get one of the 'Arcade' versions that dosnt come with a hard drive, then just use your old one untill it fills up, then get an external drive. Maybe you could haggle to trade in some of the useless arcade-games it comes with, or other accessories you dont need for a discount.
