So I saw this last night with some friends, and I enjoyed it. I'm not a fan of the show, but one of the guys I went with did watch it as a kid. And we both found it entertaining. It wasn't great, but it was hardly the worst film I've ever seen in it's genre.

The actors did a good job of selling their chemistry with each other, and overall I had a good time watching the film. Though I do have one bit of confusion.

The 2 girls that are teasing Kimberly in the bathroom, later on, in the climactic fight, they get their car ruined due to falling debris. Kimberly sees this and looks smug, and says "That's what you get", before going back to the fight. Now, here's where I don't get it. We learn, that the reason people are teasing her, is she apparently shared a nude pic of a friend around school, embarrassing the girl, and exposing her (no pun intended) sexual activities to her father, hurting their relationship. Kimberly feels bad about doing this, but I don't really get where she acts like she's got the moral high ground regarding the way other students treat her. Personally, I think, if you so blatantly do something shitty like that, you should expect some people to cut off relationships with you, and treat you like shit for a while. You did a shitty thing, and Kimberly even acknowledges that she did something shitty. So, where in the hell does she get off acting like she is vindicated when their car gets smashed? I just, I don't really get that. It would've been better if they'd shown Kimberly apologizing to the girl, not punishing her tormentors via battle debris.

Aside from that, it was a fun movie, that didn't take itself too seriously, but also didn't treat the material like a complete joke either.

So what did you think of it if you saw it?

I thought that they actually did a pretty good job with it.

For all intents and purposes, the movie was a two-hour-long remake of "Day of the Dumpster." There are several key differences that I thought ultimately worked better in terms of writing. The Rangers were not just randomly chosen and brought in from out of nowhere, Zordon was clearly hesitant to put his faith in a band of teenagers, and the Rangers were not already close friends. There was an established reason why Rita had the Green Power Coin that did a decent job of setting her up as Zordon's nemesis, while also foreshadowing Lord Zedd's existence.

As for your spoiler... that is actually a good question.

Yeah, I enjoyed it too. I have no real context to compare it to, as I would only catch a minute or two of the MMPR episodes when I'd get home from school or whatever. I vaguely remember the actors, and the overall tone, but that's it. But I thought it did what it needed to do for the story without being too serious, or too cheesy.

Also:

Why did she punch the guy and knock his tooth out? I get that's why she was in detention, but she explained the situation so quickly that I missed a lot of what she was saying. I got the impression that it was the boyfriend, but, what did he do that she felt justified in punching him? Did you catch that? I mean, I'm assuming it had something to do with the picture, but the details were a bit fuzzy to me.

I think that the guy was Kimberly's boyfriend and she knew/suspected that he was cheating on her. Kimberly sent him that picture and asked (might be paraphrasing) "Is this the kind of girl that you like?" and I get the impression that he spread the picture around the school. And I get the feeling that Kimberly hit him because he spread the picture around.

*blinks* So:
She sent a nude text of a girl she knew, who trusted her with the pic, to her own boyfriend out of spite, implying she's a slut and he would want a girl like that, and then punched him for cheating on her?? ....huh...yeah I'm just not feeling any empathy with Kimberly on that front. That's some grade A shit behavior there. Granted, she at least acknowledged it, but still not really justifying any smug behavior at the end.

I've got nothing good to say about this movie, so I won't say anything at all. None of the spirit of what made the series beloved and I'd be assured to get a better 2 hours out of watching 6 episodes of the latest season then the movie again.

My negatives for the movie;

There were some doubtful moments in the script of the movie;
The putties, Goldar and the Mega-Zord looked horrible with little to no defining features;
The actual ranger fight scenes maybe lasted around one minute in total.

But despite these, I had a good time watching the movie and I hope that they rake in enough money to create their sequel, I want to see where they go with this now that they have the backstories and all that set up.
