I have to say, it actually made the movie look good. From everything else we've seen before, I thought this movie was going to be garbage. I mean, the acting's not amazing and the CGI is really... busy, but it does seem like genuine Power Rangers to me, except a bit more modern.

Hopefully this will at least be mediocre, I'm hardly looking for a Citizen Kane from this one.

Is it just me or does the new Megazord look like an escapee from the Michal Bay Transformer franchise?

I lost all interest in Power Rangers.

I grew out of it.

Won't care for this movie be it good or bad or whatever tone or direction it has.

Honestly who is this for? I kind of used to watch Power Rangers over 20 years ago. I tried watching again on Netflix and it's awful. Is that thing still popular today?

Well it's popular enough to still be on the air (the 24th season will be in the middle of its broadcast when this movie hits) but this movie is very clearly not aimed at that demographic.

One thing I'm wondering is what's so great about this? It looks so bland, generic, and the trailer makes it clear that they'll be using the same not-so-self-aware 10's humour that got old long before it was used in The Force Awakens.

As someone who harbors no nostalgia for Power Rangers, I am still on the fence. I liked the first trailer better. That one looked like a cross between The Breakfast Club and Chronicle. This one kind of looked like Max Steele. It's like a tween version of Marvel movies.

The only reason I am holding out any hope of this movie being good. It's because I am a big fan of Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Banks.

Never watched MMPR, never cared for it, but I've found the two trailers released so far in my "ok, this might not suck ass" category of reaction. I like origin stories for heroes, and if done well, I might enjoy this one. I'm not holding my breath, and I'll wait a few weeks to go see it, after some reviews have come out. But I'm hesitantly optimistic.

As to the question of "who is this for?" It's for fans of the show, who want to see a good movie of it. People like Andre the Black Nerd, for example, who posted a reaction video earlier today, and basically was hyped as shit for it. They are remembering how much they loved it as a kid, and want to rekindle that love. Also, I'm sure they are hoping to garner a new crop of younger fans to fall in love with the franchise, based on the films performance.

To give an example of the type of person this is for:

*edit*

Huh, for some reason the youtube imbed isn't working. Just youtube search "Andre Black Nerd Power Rangers Reaction" you'll find it if you want to see him

Used to be a fan of the MMPR tv show as a kid.
This looks like a... Decent teenage flick. Didn't really appeal to me, but I'm probably not in their target audience anymore either.

10s Humor?
2010

Basically the decade where a lot of nostalgic reboots and remakes popped up that tried to hide the fact they were unnecessary by hiding under a thin layer of meta humor poking fun at their old tropes.
Pretty much what I despise.

Well, I liked it. It looks like it's taking itself seriously enough that I can be invested, but not so seriously that it forgets it's Power Rangers. So, basically what RPM did. And it seems to be taking nods from Dino Thunder as well, which also took nods from MMPR, so...I guess what goes around, comes around?

It has a superhero team, giant robots and giant monsters.
All those things are really popular right now (Marvel, DC, Transformers, Godzilla, Pacific Rim).

Looks decent.
I would replace the Kanye song with a modernized version of the original theme.
That thing is really catchy which is a bonus in terms of marketing.

The same old trailer structure I see all the time and rather meh song choice made me feel kinda lukewarm to this. As for the thing itself... also kinda meh. I'm probably not the audience, but the trailers, character designs, and all else haven't convinced me I should be

Power is a great song but I feel that it's mis-used here

The song literally says "no one man" but it's a team of five...
