So I've had White Knight Chronicles II sitting at the bottom of my stack of game for about half a year. Near a quarter year before that, I'd nearly beaten the game and since then, I've had a hard time gathering the energy to play. I think it was more to do with how hard it is for me to pick something when I've got so many things to choose from. So I'd booted the game up yesterday and I decided I'm gonna try being an Axe user. I'm normally Longsword or Bow and I wanted to use a different weapon.

Also, I'd finally created an Avatar that looks just how I want him to. He doesn't contract a serious case of Baby-Face the moment I leave the character creator, his skin doesn't turn super pale as soon as I leave the creator and he's actually as tall as I'd like him to be. Overall, I'm very happy with the way my Avatar turned out. Which, for me, is a big deal. I like my characters to look believable and I like them to look perfect. A bad looking character really hurts my enjoyment.

So I've been playing WKC and I'm having the hardest time remembering why it was that I had such a hard time getting myself to play this game. I picked it back up and all I've wanted to do is...everything there is to do. This is also actually, since I'd gotten a better internet, my first time being able to play White Knight Chronicles online, mess around with the Georama, quest with other players. It's almost like I've just now discovered the game for the first time.

My very first time playing the game, I just went and just did the story. But as I've started back up, all I've wanted to do is go out and fight and explore stages. Complete the Adventurer Guild hunting bounties and...I'm actually having a rather fun time grinding, if that makes any sense. There's a very MMO feel and it plays quite similarly to Final Fantasy XII which is a good thing, to me. So I've been dumping huge amounts of time having fun completing the errands(lolwut), doing quests, hunt bounties and just generally running all over a given area to explore and fight. And I've still got a ways to go(I've been playing for a good total of ~20ish hours and I'm about halfway through the actual story) and I don't see myself slowing down anytime soon. The only thing I'm disappointed in is not getting Avatar's personal story arc, because I think Avatar to be an awesome character even if (s)he is mute and not often spoken to.

So before you, my Escapist friends, I lay one very simple question:

What games have you played such a long time ago, that you've recently picked up again and rediscovered your love for, even stronger than before?

Around a year or two ago, I rediscovered Fire Emblem and now I fuckin love the game.

But more recently, I'd have to say Persona 3 Portable & Final Fantasy IV Advanced. I'm always up for a good JRPG and both have strong enough story/gameplay to keep me interested.

Well I always come back to Persona 4 every now and again to remind myself why I love it so much. It's been my favourite game of all time ever since I first played it. I think the only thing to come close is Katawa Shoujo which I share a similar love for. KS doesn't have a mystery story though so yeah, still not as good as Persona 4 :p

I guess Fallout: New Vegas and Alpha Protocol and other, less prominent examples. I love the amount of actual choice in Fallout: NV and AP and come on playing James Bond is so much fun. A James Bond who dunks peoples faces off a bar if they annoy him XD

I tend to replay KOTOR every couple of years, but my first and only playthrough of KOTORII I wasn't much a fan of. Inspired by a recent thread (here, actually) and a general Star Wars kick I'm on, I'm giving it another shot. Still not sure if I like it as much as the first, but it is better than I remembered.

Just about everything I've played recently has been a game that I've played before and recently returned to. First being Deus Ex: Human Revolution (the most recent of the games). I beat the game once but went back through the game since the first time I couldn't find Taggart or Sarif in the end. This time I beat the game and managed to get the pacifist achievement in addition to every ending (and various other achievements I've missed in past though there are a lot more left to unlock)

On the portable front, I have a the Ambassador Program games on my 3DS. I played a bit of Fire Emblem in anticipation of the new one but since I didn't get the new one yet I've just tried to focus on Sacred Stones...tried but then Kirby and the Amazing Mirror happened...then Metroid Fusion happened. How have I never played that game before?! What was wrong with me during the heyday of the GBA!?

Other games I've been playing recently include;

Bully: Scholarship edition which is and has been unbeaten: currently in Chapter 3 or so with 1 class left to complete.

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness - I put about 3 hours, 45 into this one and am farther ahead than I think I've ever been. I remember it being more Metroidvania-ish but either way, it's my favorite 3D Castlevania.

Final Fantasy VI - I've never beaten this one but I'm farther than I've ever been in it. I played the Opera House for the first time and since I'm on the PSX version I don't have to worry about the battery being dead (my problem with the SNES cart I own).

Legacy of Kain: Defiance - I remember having more trouble with it when I was younger and playing it for the first time, especially in Razeal's opening area! I haven't played this one as much since my Xbox either needs to be cleaned or my Xbox games need to be cleaned...or both potentially.

I don't know if I'll be able to beat Bully any time soon but I hope to beat the other ones above soon. I don't plan on adding to my collection until I've beaten some stuff that I've never beaten before. Then again, Lego City Undercover may end up taking up a lot of my time in the not-too-distant future...or Shadow the Hedgehog since I'll have my copy in hand soon.

I remember the first time trying to play Commando 3. There were three different campaigns to start on and I struggled so much I had to keep switching which one I tried until eventually it clicked into place and I could actually beat a mission.

It was so much harder than the one before it. I loved those games...

Crimsonland.

I used to play it on my brtohers PC. It was so much fun. Many years later I rediscovered it via Steam Greenlight. It is still so much fun. It is really an underrated gem that stood the test of time imo.

Essentially (to some extent) Nightmare on Elm Street meets Q*Bert as made by the creators of the Persona series, great gameplay, great score, interesting characters, and a plot involving themes that you don't see very often in games.

When the GTA V trailer came out it made me want to play San Andreas again. RDR was great and everything but I'm afraid R* may have peaked at GTA SA.

Every few years I find myself playing Phantasy Star 2 (&/or 4) again. Always on something different. I guess I've always liked open world games.

Um I just replayed Call of Duty: World at War... it's one of my favourites in the series, not sure why. I guess the shameless focus on shooting people and blowing stuff up helps, not to mention I think it was the last in the series to actually let the played drive stuff forwards. Oddly a stagnant world war 2 fps
has been a breath of fresh air for me.

Could really go for a nice WW2 shooter now, it's weird how stuff comes full circle, I'm rather burnt out on post-modern warfare and 10 years-from-no sci-fi bullshit.

Dragon Age II

I played it once, thought it was an OK game with some obvious flaws and a rather weak ending. Now I'm back and it's way better than I remembered.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines.

I always play this game again when the community patch reaches a new level (it's on 8.0 now I think), and I'm just amazed how excellent it still is. It's a shame it was broken on release, else it might have become one of the legendary super games that everyone loves.

We're on the same boat, but objectively i would dare to say that VTMB is probably the best RPG ever, even better than baldurs gate, fallout 2 etc etc.

Oh yeah I agree, if only for the whole Malkavian insanity. Fallout had the low intelligence character dialogue and the hilarious porn star names, but other than that it's no contest. VTMB has like everything everyone looks for: Distinct 'races', varied attribute, multiple solutions to everything, actually different endings, weird and interesting characters (the bail bonds guy is my favorite), and an incredibly interesting setting. It's in my top five for sure.

About a month ago I had re-played Chrono Cross. I had played it back on the PS2 and at the time I hadn't played Trigger, so about half-way through I was completely lost with what was going on. For the longest time I had always thought that Cross ultimately sucked, especially after I played Trigger years later and loved it. Now that I re-played it, I have a higher opinion of it. I still love Trigger more, but Cross is a lot better than I remembered.

Ratchet and Clank HD Collection. Made me remember the fun times I had with 1 & 3, and also allowed me to play 2 for the first time.
