Problems with a Human/Alien society.

If there was to be a society were Humans and another Alien race in the future, lets say 200 years, what problems would be encountered along the way? The one problem that comes to my mind is that when both Human and Alien children go to the same school they would have to learn each others history and other things. It is hard enough learning about my races history, it would be bloody difficult to learn another races history. What other problems to you guys/gals think would happen?

I was thinking more in the direction of a cheap sci-fi movie I saw in which the aliens decimated earth. They love wood even more than eating humans so they made the rest cut down all of their trees for food.

You can have silicon based life forms, you don't have to be THAT picky.
If they're too drastically different then I guess they'll contact our governments and their image will be slowly leaked into our subconsiousness in different types of media so that we wouldn't be surprised when we see them.

Eh. Assuming they're anything like us, they'd pop over to say they just want a home. Then they'd take our resources, kill our animals and move us to a reserve on Mars. We'd fight back, of course. Hollywood made us paranoid of aliens.

If they aren't like us, which is infinitely more likely, we might actually work together after about 50 years.

We kill each other over which god we believe in what do you think happens when an alien with a completely different comes around. Mass effect has a thin clock for racism for a reason, cultural friction would exist and it does cause racism and hate.

Aside from that, if the aliens aren't humanoid carbon based oxygen breathers they may need special facilities to live and survive and that may cause problems and isolate the two of us.

The primary issue with such a society would be the inevitable xenophobia and species-ism(?) that would be almost universally prevalent for at least a couple of generations, likely longer. Which way it goes ultimately depends on how the initial contact and the ensuing war goes. If it ends up being fairly even and degenerating into a Cold War, then it's likely that we'll be able to get along in relatively short order. If one side actually wins over the other, though, there's likely to be ridiculous levels of oppression heaped on the losers by the victors.

Also if hey did breath a different type of air then they could wear tanks on their backs like grunts from halo and they would need to visit a special station to top up on their air. Humans would need to do the same on alien planets. Lets not forget that maybe 200 years in the we could surgically altar ourselves to breath both types of air.

There's a small chance that there are no atheists in the side of the aliens, but if they are all atheists then we're screwed becasu the majority here worships a dead man and his omnipotent all knowing father.
