Aiight, Escapists, I'm asking you for help because I dunno why. Just lately, I've been having problems with random YouTube videos.

Like, completely at random. Say, a video in a series will load perfectly fine at 720p, no worries. And then the next one, I click 720p, but soon the HD icon vanishes down in the quality section, and bringing up the quality menu results in greyed out 720p and 1080p options that I can't reselect.

That was several weeks ago. Now, it's more regular. To top it off, I'll have a video that loads 720p fine and loads the whole thing, and at the same damn time another video that does the problem I've mentioned above, and when I give up and watch it in 480p or 360p, it'll load 15-20 seconds of the video, then stop. I'll play it to that point, and the video stops. And several seconds later, it starts loading again...for the next 15-20 seconds.

As I've said, this is more regular now, but still irregular. My friend was having the same problem the other night, but I've been having it more. He also tried it in Chrome (we both use Firefox) and he got the same result.

So I ask you guys: the fuck is going on?

Youtube doesn't know how to code.

They routinely try and make updates and changes that nobody (or not enough of everybody) wants and the things they TRY to do often don't work properly. They ignore all complaints and can never EVER find what's wrong with their system when videos:

Do not load
Do not load while paused
Load without sound
Reset without warning
Load without sound and reset without warning and load without sound again
Freeze
STOP loading
Stop loading AND freeze
Are unresponsive to attempts to control it
Will not reload when you hit REFRESH
Suddenly LOSE all that it has loaded for no apparent reason
ETC.

They have no idea what they are doing down there.

I haven't been able to watch 720 or 1080 res videos in forever because even if I let the entire video load, it will playback very jumpy.

I thought the site was bad when VEVO showed up, but now the level of quality has really taken a turn.

Personally, I've been having issues where sometimes, videos just refuse to load. Usually, you just refresh the page and then it works, but still, it sucks.

Yeah, I think we can all agree that youtube need to get their shit together.

Yeah Youtube's even worse for content creators from what I've been hearing.

But the core problem is that Youtube are really the only option, so until some real competition comes along, Google don't need to get any shit together :(

Youtube has been screwy for a few days. It seems videos only begin to load after about 20 seconds of waiting, plus the aforementioned problem where it only loads sections then stops.

It's proper fucked.

Been having the exact same problem on my end, it's really getting on my nerves. Sometimes when I think it's frozen, I hit refresh, and in that second before the page reloads, the video starts playing. What a joke.

Don't even get me started with YouTube...

- Videos never load, even on lowest resolution

- When they do load, it's never all the way

- ALWAYS ends up buffering every few seconds

- Video's keep skipping forward

- Subs don't show up in my front page

I don't have the greatest connection but I have no problem loading HD videos elsewhere. It's just so frustrating because YouTube is the only option.

I've been having different problems with YouTube myself lately. For me, a video will be playing fine, then it'll stop and I'll be told that there's an error and to try again later. Prior to that, when I'd play a video, it'd start fine but after a few seconds of playing it'd skip forward 10-20 seconds.

Youtube is just completely jacked up. They keep making layout changes no one wants and, somehow, their video playback just keeps getting worse and worse. Sometimes I'll switch it to 1080p andit will say it's in 1080p... but it's not in 1080p, it's still in 360p. The gear ISN'T spinning, it thinks it's done.

Also, sometimes when I minimize full screen videos it refreshes the page the video was on, making me watch an ad again, and resetting the resolution again so I have to re-buffer an HD stream.

Sometimes videos just GG out and stop loading, causing me to refresh again.

Sometimes one video will load in like 10 seconds, and another will never load no matter what.

A cynic would say this is so you keep refreshing the page so you have to look at more ads.

At least I'm not the only one having to wait before the video starts (loading).

It's been going on for the better part of this month, frankly, I don't really care, they should just learn to fix their shit faster.

I've been having problems where videos won't load. Shoot I've been having problems where advertisements won't load and therefore can't even watch the video I clicked on.

I have noticed these issues way too much. On a whim decided to try and load YouTube on Internet Explorer 8 and it ran so much smoother than any other browser. Maybe Microsoft has it's uses after all. By the way new poster here.

1080 somethings doesn't work for me. It will load the entire video but it won't play or will be extremely jumpy/laggy. Youtube just sucks arse. I've been enjoying Vimeo for awhile now.

Glad I noticed this thread. I was thinking it was something on my end.

Why does that sound fishy to me?

I use Chrome 98% of the time, except when I watch YouTube. I have no idea why IE works better but it does.

Didn't mean anything about you being fishy if that's what you thought. Meant that it only works right on a Microsoft product.
