Professor Layton Promotion Pits Men Against Women in Mental Warfare

Nintendo has a series of Professor Layton-themed events in the works that will see whether guys or gals are better at the whole puzzle-solving thing.

Professor Layton and his apprentice Luke have a new adventure on the way - Professor Layton and the Unwound Future [http://www.amazon.com/Professor-Layton-Unwound-Future-Nintendo-DS/dp/B003O6E7DI/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1283374036&sr=1-1] will hit store shelves September 12th - and Nintendo is quickly ramping up efforts to promote the quirky puzzle title.

A series of events in San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, and Philadelphia meant to draw attention to Unwound Future will be testing the puzzle-solving acumen of lads and ladies alike - and seeing how the two compare.

For the first event, held in San Francisco's on September 7th, Nintendo will be setting up red British-style phone booths all throughout Union Square. Actors dressed as characters from the game will be in said phone booths, presenting puzzles to passers-by. The faux Professors (et al) will then tally up the score of their female and male recipients respectively, and see how they compare.

While Luke and Layton are both guys, the series does have a female puzzle-solver as well in the young Flora, so remember, there is canon support for this! Or something.

It's a battle of the sexes, in a battle of wits! A ... battle of sex wits! Witty sex? Ah hell, that's a joke that's just not going to happen.

Oh my god this is so clearly demeaning to women!

Does Nintendo really need to promote these games any more? I mean I still need to own the first game, and the fanbase for all these brain training games is similar in number to Zynga's fanbase, frankly!

This is not a brain training game at all. It's an adventure/puzzler by Level 5, the same company that made such great RPGs as Jeanne D'Arc, Rogue Galaxy, and more. And this series is fantastic.

Also, how on earth is it demeaning to women?

OT: I am psyched for this game.

Why do I not live near any of those cities?

Also, that trailer was incredible. I'm so excited for this game that it's probably unhealthy.

Why does it always have to be the man vs woman thing? ...problem with Prof.L is all the people I know who play it, more than anyone else, are female >< So, pretty much dominating already!

It started life as a brain-training game. The story stuff was added in to differentiate it from others (and is fantastic, admittedly).
The point is, it has such a massive fanbase there's not that many more people it needs to attract.

A battle of the sexes is not sexist to either sex. It's just a fun way to divide teams up.
The demeaning to women bit was a joke, and a dig at the feminists who seem to believe EVERYTHING is demeaning to women.

Well, it's a good thing all these awesome games decided to come out in thye vicinity of my birthday, I would have no way to afford them otherwise. Also fuck yes, the professor gets a flying car.

Oh, okay. Sorry, it's tough to detect sarcasm over text-based communication, heh. Making fun of feminists is perfectly fine in my book; carry on!

Nintendo seems to have a number of fun, small-scale marketing ideas. I just wish they were more widespread.

I've never played one of these games before, but that voice sounded an awful lot like Frodo Elijah Wood.

Battle of the sexy wits, then. I dunno, these sex battles always seem kind of odd to me. I mean, men and women are equal, but not the same. Each have their qualities and their drawbacks. These battles seem pointless.

(Also lol, sex battles)

I know this is off topic, but I hate it when people or organisations on youtube put their watermarks or intro to stuff they have not made or really had a part in.
I despise it, and machinima.com does it all the time.
