Project Needlemouse officially named Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1

The announcement of a new Sonic the Hedgehog game is always news, but with the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, the folks at Sega are taking a novel approach by marrying old-school Sonic gameplay and new-school delivery. Sonic 4 will be a 2D game with 3D visuals for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii and will be distributed as a downloadable game upon its release this summer.

The revelation that is Sonic 4 doesn't come as much of a surprise to me... That being said I am EXTREMELY excited.

Just watching that video reminds me of the old games... I want to buy this game now...
But I probably won't, unless it has Tails in the game...
Why? Because, I suppose I like Tails more than Sonic. He's sooo cuuuteee!
Well, at least this will be interesting... in some way...

Episodic gaming for Sonic? That's new. And it seems that with every single press release Sega disproves the Sonic Cycle even more. Maybe this really will be the time to break it? Nevertheless, given I'm in the apparent minority who actually likes some of the 'Friends of Sonic' and who likes the 3D games, I still feel some amount of nostalgia and love that it seems Sonic 4 will indeed be 2D. I love the 3D games. But nothing beats the originals. And nothing compares to Sonic 3 and Knuckles...

Visually it's kinda unimpressive. The running animation looks a bit stupid. Episodic gaming for a 2D sonic game? That's a stupid idea to me. Furthermore will this be better then Sonic 3&Knuckles? That's a hard game to live up to.

Will it be better than my childhood? No. Will it be a good Sonic game? Let us wait and see my brothers.

It's not just nostalgia seeing as I Still actively play it and find it to be a fun game as dorky as that is. I'm fully willing to accept that it could be better, hell I hope it is. But from what little we've seen it just looks like they were trying to use the old green hill zone visuals.

Sounds interesting... although its sad to see that Sonic has been reduced to budget-priced DLC rather than a full blown disk game...

That said, I guess its for the better, Sonic just doesn't have a place in the main stream gaming market anymore.

This is what the hardcore Sonic fans have been waiting at least 10 years for! I say hooray, and don't screw this up! ^_^ The good news is that after all those years of harping, threatening, complaining, nit-picking, arguing, bitching, moaning, griping, fighting, crying, demanding, nagging, hoping, groaning, and sniveling Sega has FINALLY decided to it's fans!

That its a waste of time because Team Sonic are so utterly retarded they'll screw this up. Add to that, their basically saying "3D Sonic doesn't work", which is alittle sad because I'd love to see a GOOD 3D Sonic game. With Robotnik, not godamn 'Eggman'.

I was pretty disappointed in this game before I watched that video. This really does look like it will please the Sonic fans of the world.
