I don't know how many people are interested in this on here, but back during the Blizzard vs Relic poll there seemed to be a reasonable amount of people who liked SC... so!

As a lot of people - I'm sure - are aware, Starcraft is a bit of a big thing in Korea, with games on TV, progamers paid huge sums to play the game for a living and all that... Well, the non-Korean scene isn't nearly as impressive, but we still put on a few big events every year, and there's still thousands of people playing. Now with Starcraft 2 right around the corner (Blizzard "Soon" anyway), we are hosting what will - perhaps - be the last big non-korean event: The Pokerstrategy Teamliquid Starleague.

About a year ago, we hosted the first incarnation of TSL, the Razer TSL with about 10,000$ in prizes, with games broadcasted and casted, if you are interested you can view more of it here:
http://razertsl.teamliquid.net/

Well, tomorrow the PS TSL (this time with over 20,000$ in prizes) kicks off with the first broadcasted game between Greg "IdrA" Fields, an American Terran progamer living in Korea, and Protoss player Tyler "NonY" Wasieleski, another American, with experience playing in Korea as well. The battle is for a direct seed into the Round of 16, played between the first place finisher of the qualifier ladder (IdrA) and the 4th place finisher of last years TSL (NonY).

If you are interested in watching, live stream links will be posted here at the time of the event:

If people care, I'd be happy to update this thread - if I remember to - when other games are played, and if not, well, no harm done :) I read through the forum rules, and am not entirely sure if this would qualify as advertisement or not, but if it does I'm terribly sorry and will of course not try to make any further posts about it.

Interesting enough.
Although, I find it much more fun to actually play Starcraft, compared to watching people play Starcraft.

i might watch a match if its truly epic like 400 zerglings vs 100 dark templars and 100 firebats. Thats fun to watch but id rather play the actual game.

Oh I agree, playing is definitely more fun than watching, but I feel that's true for almost any sport or game :)

Of course, after posting a thread about this I completely forget about the time myself lol, so I think I missed the first two games - oh well >.< Ironic tho.

EDIT: Actually only missed game 1, phew.

Like its predecessor, the Razer TSL 2008, The PokerStrategy.com TSL will be played out over three rounds. The ladder stage took place from November 21 to December 12, 2009, the qualifiers took place in early January 2010, and finally the TSL is starting this weekend and will be broadcast live over the Internet. With a talented team of casters in tow, Team Liquid is ready to make this season's broadcasts the best yet.

I wanna play starcraft with actual people, but I suck. I can't gain any experience against other players, because I'M STILL BUILDING MY BARRACKS WHEN I GET RUSHED.

Then you can build it sooner, or be prepared to rely on SCVs or maybe structures to buy some time.

Watching a few high-level games with good casting can teach a few things, too. Or, you could check replays to see what they were doing (though you'll likely miss out on things that could be pointed out by a caster, or tactics and strategies built upon deep familiarity with the game).

Yeah, there's a massive learning curve, because the game is so old that even "bad" players have played it for a long time now.

Don't be too discouraged tho, still see a reasonable number of people who are completely new. A great way to learn is to play 3v3s or 4v4s, especially if it's with people you know (and are better than you).

I'd also recommend checking out some of the helpful content over here:
http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/Main_Page
There's a ton of build orders, general strategy and so on there. And as Threesan said, watching some games is great as well, especially replays as you can copy the order more easily.
You can find replays on plenty of sites:
http://www.teamliquid.net
http://www.gosugamers.net
http://reps.ru/replays.php?type=duel
http://www.yaoyuan.com (chinese)
http://sc.ygosu.com/replay/?s_cate=best (korean)
http://repdepot.net/list.php?type=1 (public replay hosting site, so the quality will vary)

By the way, the cast of the Round of 16 should be starting in a few minutes, with a stream over here:
http://pstsl.teamliquid.net/

EDIT: Bah, massive overload of users :p
EDIT2: I think it's working now.
