ive been thinking alot about the PS3 and ive realized that it is shit compared to the PS1.

i kno it "newer" and more advanced but if you think about games and the quality of them the PS1 has alot more to deliver then the PS3

depends on the qualities you are looking for when comparing them.

Me? I judge which one is best by the sound they make when being hit with a brink repeatedly.

Ill publish my findings if anyone is interested.

PS2 hit a 'sweet spot' in the gaming industry. Being popular enough to get plenty of original, big budget titles but not so popular that an arse tonne of unoriginal, grey, gritty cash ins were made for it.

That doesn't mean that the PS3 is terrible by any stretch of the imagination. You just have to look harder for the gems.

Technically the PS3 as, provided you get the right version, you can play PS1/2 games?

List of the 'greatest' consoles of their time:

1. SNES
2. NES
3. PS2

So, yes, the PS2 is the 'best' PlayStation.

Those are some heavy nostalgic glasses you're wearing, where can I get them?

I'm content with my PS3. I started with the PS1 with Rayman (never did beat it...), but I didn't get into the whole gaming thing until the PS2. The PS3 came around and it's served me great so far. If I were to go on nostalgic factor, I'd say the PS2 had the most diverse range of good games for it, but the grass always looks greener on the other side.

Beating Rayman was like winning all the olympic events in one go - impossible even with cheats

PS2 is of course the winner since it was just powerful enough to make characters look human and it had a massive range of games for it. Also the transition to analog sticks gave it a massive edge over PS1

I like them all equally. PS1 and PS2 are equal as far as games are concerned, then the PS3 very slightly falls short on games but makes up for it with it's shiny online stuff.

The PS3 has a few PS1 and PS2 games up for download too :3

Well, the PS2 has Shadow of the Colossus, Ico and Okami. Pretty much end of story for me. Great console with a great library.

Wel, the PS3 is still New, and doesnt quite have the third party support of the PS2. So I would say the PS2 is the best, so far at least. The PS1 was good and all, but other then a few choice titles like Parasite Eve, Spyro, and FF VII, there wasnt a lot that holds up to what was on the PS2.

I'd give the PS3 time, but for now, its the PS2.

EDIT:

Well the PS3 obviously, it's a far better console and the games library is compatible from the previous ones as long as you buy an early one.
Or mod the hell out of your PS3 like I did.

And actually, I've heard the early ones arent as good as the newer ones (something about them failing more often or something like that).

It is a hard call. PSX was cool and had some awesome games that I still identify with, but the problem with PSX was it was the town whore of gaming console, everyone gets a ride. There were entirely too many games for it and alot of them were trash.

PS2 had perhaps the best overall balance between quality games and emerging technologies. Though I know I just dont have the same vibe from it as the PSX.

PS3 is great technologically but It sort of flounders given that it is trying too hard to take the red mage/jack of all trades approach and trying to do entirely too many different things.

Technologically, PS3, Not for its higher system specs but just how many things it can do. PSX for its nostalgia factor. So Overall, I would give the edge albeit slightly to the PSX.

PS3 is the strongest, in terms of hardware (duh).

The PS2 has a completely insane backlog, since it barely had any competition during its peak years (Gamecube? Xbox? Hah!).

As for the PS1.. well, it had some great games and apparently a really good audio chip. That's as far as my comparison goes, friendo. Its games have aged pretty poorly, though. 3D models from that era are impressively awful (see FFVII).

It's important to remember that the game industry was very different back then. Microsoft wasn't a competitor in the home console market, and Nintendo mostly catered (and still caters) to a different demographic.

EDIT: Oh, I'm sorry. Did you want a meaningless and hopelessly arbitrary opinion on which one is "better" based on some completely arcane parameters?

Fine, the PS2. It kept kicking ass all the way to 2008.
