PS2 RPG Recommendations

I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a good (J)RPG for PS2. I've recently reacquired my addiction to RPGs, and I need lengthy titles to help satiate my cravings (i.e. 35+ hours minimum to complete the main story).

However, I'm looking for a specific type of RPG, one with a real-time battle system, like in FFXII and Tales of Symphonia. I've already tracked down copies of Tales of the Abyss and Legendia, as well as Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, so what all else is out there?

I believe Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria fits your criteria. I haven't played all the way through it but it's pretty good.

When it comes to RPGs on the PS2, Dark Cloud and to a lesser extent Kingdom Hearts springs to mind. Granted, they aren't as RPG-esque as Final Fantasy, but they are great fun and I've spent hours playing both series.

Ah, real-time? I guess that saves me the trouble of typing out "Shin Megami Tensei" a few thousand times.

Except Devil Summoner. That one does have a real-time combat system.

Xenosaga was a lengthy JRPG from what I can recall.

Ya the original Dark Cloud is good (even if it is a little annoying at the beginning when you can't move 2 feet from a waterfall without becoming thirsty), but you already got Star Ocean: Till the End of Time and that game can take you some time to beat depending on if you do optional stuff and spend time crafting and grinding (For a reference point, I just got to disc 2 and I have about 65 hours logged). Also try Radiata Stories, that game is pretty good too.

Different from those above, you could also try Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance or Champions Return to Arms. They're more like your Diablo Style RPG that Dark Cloud or Star Ocean, but they're still pretty good.

I know you said you didn't want turn based, but I strongly recommend Final Fantasy X (it's really good) and the follow up game Final Fantasy X-2 (not a lot of people like it but I thought it was pretty fun and it continues the story nicely).

Rogue Galaxy. Seriously, that game is awesome.

Rogue Galaxy for sure. But personally I liked Start Ocean more, and maybe you should consider PS1 games as well, since Star Ocean 2 is the best in the series imo. Kingdom Hearts games are probably my second fav for that genre. Oh, and for RPG tactical if you want to give those a try, for PS2, there's not many, mostly Breath of Fire V, Stella Deus (pretty much a not as good Final Fantasy Tactics game with a slightly changed system and better graphics, same composer though, but FFT is a much better OST.) And finally, technically the .//hack games are also real time combat, but they are TERRIBLE. At least in comparison to those mentioned. Now, if you want to stray more into my waters, I can list probably every JRPG on the PS2 and PS1 period, and tell you which ones are worth playing or not. But unless you request it I'd probably just be talking to myself

Even though it's not real time, I'm still saying Persona 3/4. Easily the best RPGs on that system.

Better idea: wait a few months. I PS3 collection is due out soon, and it will save you quite a bit of cash than buying them separately. Of course, you miss out if you don't have a PS3, but then again I don't exactly consider them RPGs.
