Hey everyone, so I'm trying to decide if it's worth buying a PlayStation 3. I currently have an Xbox 360 but my favorite system is still the PS2.

Do you guys know if the PS3 is backwards compatible? I know it had some problems with that in the past, I wasn't sure if it was fixed. Are the exclusive titles worth the money?

Also, what are some good games? What do you guys like to play?

Thanks for all the help!

I remember reading somth about sony not supporting Ps2 games at all anymore on the new Systems.

It was really just the First 60 gb ver of ps3 that had full backward compatability. I guess they are worth quite a bit more now on ebay then the new slim ones :p.

I got one of those and it works with all ps2 games i have.

You can just buy a slim Ps2 anyhow if its a issue. they cheap. But the virtual ps2 Memory card you get with the 1st issue ps3 is sweet :)

It really depends on your taste in gaming and the size of your wallet, and it probably helps if you like games from Japan. I don't own a 360, for example, because its exclusives don't really interest me and the pc covers the rest. The PS3 Slim is not backwards compatible, but Sony is in the process of realizing that people want access to PS2 games, and they're finally starting to get developers to recode older games to run on the current system. If you get a PS3, keep your PS2 for now at least--Okami still runs beautifully on mine. As far as PS3 gaming goes, here are a few of my favorites (not all exclusives):

Demon's Souls
Dark Souls
ICO/SotC HD Collection (even more gorgeous, still fun)
Final Fantasy XIII (one disk, not three)
Metal Gear Solid 4
Nier

Skyrim and Hunted: The Demon's Forge both play well enough on it, as does Mirror's Edge. Catherine was developed for it first, and Persona 5 will undoubtedly privilege Sony's consoles.

The Ratchet and Clank games are always fun. And the HD Sly Cooper games were brilliant.

it is good to play the old platformer style games for a nostalgia blast.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate everything you guys said. I'm gonna keep my PS2, but I did just buy one of the new PS3s, hopefully they'll release the Jak games or Sly Cooper for it. I will definitely check out the games you've all recommended!
