I think the Slim is cheap in Australia too. The exchange ratio is also 1:1 so it's not like there is a difference between both. But to answer your question, I think so. I don't think regional codes are an issue but don't hold me to that. I know nothing about Australia PS3 games.

yes. i'm not sure if the disc will spin in the opposite direction due to being in the southern nemisphere as opposed to the north.

Yes, it will. Though you'll need either a different power chord or an adapter for an American plug, either of which can be optained cheaply. Blu-ray movies may not work on it as well, as they are region locked (ps3 games are not).

So if i buy one cheap, i should be able to buy the plug converter cheaply, but i will only have problems with dvd's and blu-ray?

the ps3 console is region coded, but the games arent, so you might not be able to play blu ray and dvd movies on it.

Yes, exactly. I'm not even sure if the DVDs are region locked, all I know for certain is the games aren't and the blu-ray movies typicially are.

Pretty much this, youll need a plug converter and away you go. youve most likely got something that can play DVD's already and honestly ehy bother with Blu-Ray?

I'm not so sure about the slims but the regular PS3s use a universal power supply cable which can be bought dirt cheap from pretty much anywhere. Heck I've got about 5 laying around home somewhere....

Edit: Also I'm interested (seeing as I'm from Aus as well) what's the price you're looking at for the American console?
