Darksiders Warmastered Edition released on steam, free for people having the original game. Also the entire franchise is off 80%, including the remastered version.

glad I held off buying the original because I heard it had issues. You can get both remastered the 1st and the sequel for ten bucks if you hustle.

Really? I only saw like the first 15 minutes of it, a friend was playing, but I remember the opening scene was the christian apocalypse and you're fighting the forces of heaven and hell. That alone has kept it on my radar.

I'd really wish we could dip into Jude-Christian mythology for video games, but not in that "Let me indoctrinate you" sense but in the sense of "Look at these stories, Jesus drove a thousand demons into a heard of pigs, that's metal as fuck!"

I don't believe in it in anyway, but when I did go to church in my teens that was the thing I loved about it... the stories, cause they were always so fucked up and metal.

I have a fondness for those themes as well despite my lack of faith. I find religion and its associated imagery very fascinating and it has some really impactful visuals. Honestly if you're into the idea of playing as a Horseman of the Apocalypse and enjoy some good ol' Zelda style dungeoning you'll have a good time with the franchise. The combat is in-between the simple systems of Zelda games and the more combo heavy god of war style.

Before you know it, we will have Darksiders III: Famished Edition, and Darksiders IV: Conquested. Hey, gotta have something that's stupid, but memorable. At least they'll stand out.

To be fair, we have that with Bayonetta 1 & 2 and Dante's Inferno. Guardian Heroes had a heaven vs. hell thing going on, and Diablo had it too, if I remember correctly. Eastern RPGs did some of time, but mainly Japan used Jude-Chirstian theme mostly for the visual and musical aesthetics. We could always use a bit more, but then I feel that it will get played out real fast.

Related - did you see Darksiders Warmastered Edition: Horse Stable Collector?s Edition. It's super mega special - since it's the the game about the first horseman, it comes with a horse stable. A real horse stable. Among other thing. It also costs ?66600.00

I was planning on getting this on the Wii U but over on Amazon the release date has reverted to a placeholder. This makes me think that the Wii U version has been quietly cancelled to make way for a soon-to-be-announced Switch version, kinda like what just happened with Stardew Valley. I've never played a Darksiders but I'm interested in the concept of the series...even though it may not be necessary on the Switch considering it's launching with (or getting soon after launch) a Legend of Zelda (which I understand Darksiders..."draws inspiration from")

I wish I could get over how FUCKING UGLY the character design in this game is.

I bought it years ago because heard it was Zelda-like, and I love me some Zelda, but don't like Nintendo's systems. Got about an hour into the game and just got really annoyed with the main character's design.

It's might not be that big a deal, but considering I have to look at him every second of playing the game it just made me not want to play.

Maybe there's mods to replace the character model...
