Some people bought the new Deus Ex: Human Revolution and decided to do play-through's on Youtube, which seems perfectly normal, up until the publishers decided to take their videos down.

Square Enix (I think it's them, correct me if I am wrong) have decided that no one should do a walkthrough of this game (apart from IGN). The channel owners say that their videos were taken down for a copyright infrigement.

I cannot see why they would want to take down someone's play-through of a game that has recieved such a high critical acclaim, surely, it would only increase sales.

I just wondered what you thought of this matter.

(Correct me if I am wrong on any of this.)

UberHaxorNovas still seems to be up. That is a very good point, if the game looks good in an LP then it encourages people to buy the game. As an example, I bet more people are going to get the Space Marine game due to TotalBiscuit's LP of the demo.

"Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use"

I think it's good to have a bit of the game up on youtube consisting of videos from the start of the game but, I've seen people just watch through videos of entire games rather than buying. I think that if you get to see the start of the game then you could probably make your decision on buying with that. If you don't want to buy a game after seeing the beginning parts than you probably wouldn't want to buy it anyway. Although I know my brother watched through Heavy Rain before actually buying it but, I don't see any reason why you need to see the entire thing before purchasing it.

If I were the publisher than I'd probably leave videos of the opening sections but remove the rest.

Ehhhh, really? Isnt the whole experience of playing a game, well, PLAYING? Sorry, I just cant imagine anyone, no matter how much of a cheapskate or how poor that person may be, sitting down and watching videos of a game instead of playing it.
Well there are always exceptions to rules. There would be people that buy it to play it and there would be people that watch it to see the story.
I know for a fact that with the money I have right now, if I saw the whole story of Deus Ex Human Revolution on youtube then I would just go buy another game because I only have so much money and I would much rather experience a new story which I don't know the ending of. Luckily I've been able to control myself and not watch videos of the game past the first 30 minutes because if I saw the whole thing then I wouldn't be as interested in buying it. I'm more of a story person myself so playing it myself isn't vital to me enjoying it. So the gameplay side alone wouldn't be enough for me to buy it.
