I just built a PC just for gaming (asked for the components and the store built it for me), this are the specs:

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66GHz
cpu speed: 2.67 GHz Performance Rated at: 5.874 GHz
RAM: 3.0 GB
video card: GeForce 9800 GT
sound card: Realtek High Definition Audio

it cost me around $1,000 dollars, but my friend who knows more about PC´s tells me that for that price i shoud had got a GeForce 9800 GTX which he claims is much better than the one i got.

now my question is, is he right?? oh! also i got a flat screen (LCD, plasma??? not sure) 21 inches in the price

also, i downloaded steam, and my full range of games i have bought are

Eufloria
Crysis
Braid
Peggle deluxe
Pëggle nights
Geometry wars
Psychonauts
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II

I am planning on buying the witcher enhanced edition, only for the boobies (hehe), so, any ideas of what else from steam should i get?? (the orange box is already in my 360) oh! and is it worth it to upgrade to 9800 GTX?

thanks!!

You got screwed, for 1k you couldve gotten 8 gigs of ram. Also with Onboard sound quality these das you usually dont actually NEED a soundcard itself.

Goto Newegg.com and drop those specs into there to get a approx pricing.

I build Two nearly identical machines for my wife and I back in Oct

Roughly..

i7 920
Asus Rampage2 Gene ROG MB (Xfi sound on board)
12 Gig Ram
Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 275
Sata Drive 800gig
Lightscripe Dvd Rewriter
Vista builders ( with free windows 7 upgrade)
1K watt Power supply
New Case

Cost Delivered 1300 each

Sounds like you got charged a little much for older stuff..

You got boned., for a thousand dollars I could have hooked you up with a GTX 285 and a much faster CPU. PM me if you want proof. I think you should get a refund and talk to me.
the thing is, GTX 285 i would have to import it... and taxes woudld kick me in the nuts. (not to mention the completely insecure passage from the U.S to México)

I hate living in México...

There is no Orange Box for 360.

You heard me.
What, I know this is off toic but there is...I have it right here!(Oh! he's trolling)
I'm not trolling!

I'm suggesting that the 360 version is so inferior to the PC version that it doesn't exist.
Um...three quaters of the oranage box is single player so..........um yeah.

well I was going to say you got screwed because that was the ideal price/performance rig about a year ago (if you throw in an extra gig of RAM) and thats pretty much my gear. It isnt sub par its just not going to last you as long. Since you live somewhere that has higher import costs etc I guess its ok but there are more cost effective versions of all those components, the CPU is the worst bit, you could have had an i5/i7 which will last much longer.

I'm a Computer noob but it seems to me that a sapphire Radeon 5850 or even a Vapor-X 4890 would be better than a GTX 285 In price and performance.

I would hate it, too, If I had to buy yesterday's gear at tommorow's prices. Does Newegg not deliver there or something?
yes they do, but i dont plan on putting at risk a $1000 investment so that they can lose the pakage in customs :p

Onto your second question.
Looking at the rest of your specs., you will not see major difference between the 9800GT and the 9800GTX.
