Are you trained to "talk up" a game that a customer has brought to the counter for purchase? I've lost count of the number of times that I've pulled a box off the shelf, handed it to a GA, and then been assaulted with gushing praise for the title.
If Gamestop is training its employees to do this, does anyone know why? I understand that some employees/companies go with the hard sell but why do that when the customer has clearly made up his mind to buy the product and is standing there with cash in hand?
Maybe I just have the best taste in games ever...
Edit: Seems that the original post needs more explanation because, at the moment, the majority of the responses indicate that I'm coming across as an asshole. When I say "I've lost count" and "assaulted with gushing praise", I mean that the impromptu praise of the game is 1. empty - in that it could apply to another other title and 2. over-the-top in that such high praise is not deserved and, therefore, seems to be a rehearsed tactic. Case in point: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bible_Game. I bought this as a joke gift for my fiance`. The only way in which it could be considered "good" is in how laughably horrible it is... and only then, it's probably best (only) enjoyed with a group of drunken heathens (speaking from experience). However, when I was at the cash register, the clerk gave the same glowing recommendation that I've heard applied to several other titles in almost exactly the same way. It's the ubiquity (not just one employee), frequency, degree, lack of any negative criticism, and the fact that all of that is applied to some really obscure crap that makes me narrow my eyes and call "conspiracy."
