I'm feeling nostalgic and I'm wondering:
What's your favorite arcade game of all time?
I always liked a lot of the old vector graphics games: Star Wars (the original arcade game) and Test Driver (the one with the cow).
I also liked the old shooters: Chiller and Area 51.
Fighter's became really popular in the 90s with SF2 and MK2.

But my favorites were the one's with weird yet very intuitive peripherals:
Marble Madness and Top Skater.
One of those two.
I can't decide.

X-Men Arcade always got a lot of action but I think that was solely because 4 ppl can play at the same time.

I probably dropped a hundred bucks in quarters into Golden Axe at the convenience store.

This.

Also, the first Time Crisis, it was expensive as shit, but man it was fun with friends.

Also I remember epic rounds of Virtua Fighter. And my brother and I used to go to this pizza place that had Centipede in a table. We played that for hours and hours.

As much as it hurts to be called an old timer (not even 40 dammit!!) my allowance when I was a kid did get partly (ahem - mostly) spent on the nearest arcade.

While Golden Axe, Wonder Boy in Monsterland, Double Dragon and Bubble Bobble got quite a few coins from me, I`ll say that my favorite game of that era was Thunderblade. Did try the cockpit-version of Afterburner as well, but I was a chopper-geek and felt jets were lame...

House of the Dead, I remember my brother and I went through 20 bucks worth of quarters to beat it at this Indian Reservation's game room.
Any of the Initial D arcade games.
The X-Men arcade game.
There was also this mech-game with two joystick controls where you fought against another player or the A.I. was wicked fun.
Also...does Ski-ball count?

I remember playing a lot of NFL Blitz and NBA Jams with friends. Gauntlet and then Gauntlet Legends towards the end there. I don't even remember the name of it now, but some top down space shooter type game. I never got into the fighting games much, I always felt intimidated by the "older kids" that played them. I loved anything with a gun chained to it, so Area 51, House of the Dead, Time Crisis, and some older ones I can't remember the name of. I'm only 26, so I don't remember a lot of the older ones.

Funny story, a group of my friends recently got together to play laser tag for nostalgic reasons and they had a Time Crisis game. We ended up playing it for about an hour.

I'm only 21, but still play arcade games quite a lot. I guess I'm fortunate to live where I do, as we still have arcades here. From what I've heard, a lot of pretty decent sized cities in North America don't have any arcades left these days. That's fucking brutal.

As for the topic at hand: I've always loved Street Fighter, especially Third Strike. Virtual On is also an old favourite, though it's bloody hard to find anywhere that still has a Virtual On cabinet. I play a lot of shmups, too; Mushihimesama Futari is the best of the best, IMO, but Raiden 1-4 and the Raiden Fighters games are also super fun.
