So apparently the game gives players the option to tell the Outsider to piss off, essentially making for a no-powers run. Which is cool.

However, if you do that do you still get the talking heart?

I like the idea of playing without the suite of cheatcode-esque abilities but the talking heart is one of the only things that made the first game worth playing at all.

Oh, and can you still reject the Outsider if you play as Corvo? Wouldn't he already have the tasteless hand tattoo and accompanying powers?

From what I've heard from a friend who is playing it (my system can't play it right now), yes, as Corvo, you can reject the Outsider's gifts, and play it pure vanilla mortal if you wish.

As to the talking heart...seriously? That was one of the ONLY things that made the game fun for you? A device that simply gave flavor text for random npcs?

If you play as Corvo, Delilah strips him off the outsiders mark in the prologue, which leaves him open to receive it again.

No idea about the Heart.

The villain strips (Absorbs?) Corvo's brand away in the opening cutscene, before you even get the option of who to control.

If the Heart was the only reason you played the first game, I'm kind of wondering why you'd get the second. The details are neat, but thats hardly a framework to hang a full game on. Though I will say that even if you can't get the Heart in No Powers mode, D2 has a lot more dialogue and characterization (And people other then guards) to go around and overhear then the first one's repeated guard lines.

Yeah. I thought it was a really, really cool touch.

The setting and the art style were also awesome. Everything else was crap. By which I mean the story, characters and gameplay.

Level design was alright I suppose.

Oh, I have no intention of buying it at full price. Especially not at full Australian price.

I've heard some good things though. Apparently they made being non-lethal a lot more interesting. So I'll check it out eventually.

Well, it was adorable. Okay, maybe that wasn't the right adjective. It was really fucking sweet. It tells you so much [http://dishonored.wikia.com/wiki/The_Heart/Quotes] about the game world and the people in it that you wouldn't have deciphered otherwise, and it's also one of the only well-voiced characters.

(Not that the other voice actors were necessarily bad; they're perfectly competent, but the script often left them sounding strangely passionless.)

A lot of them were TV actors. The developers tried to build a bit of hype by hiring a vaguely recognizable cast and ended up just demonstrating why we have dedicated voiceover actors these days.

It has an actual mechanical value; You can click it on guards to get an idea of how corrupt, wicked, or murderous they are. Killing them for more severe crimes, as revealed by the heart, nets a lower chaos than more altruistic patrolers. I once heard how a guard sneaks food in for prisoners. Stuff like that.

Are you talking about the first game?

Because if so, that isn't true.

Yea, it says Dishonored 2. Isn't that what we were talking about?

Yeah, but the person you quoted was kinda referring to the first game. And you didn't specify.

Which is why I asked.

Also because I've seen you repeat incorrect things about Dishonored before.

I didn't notice :(
And have I? It's not intentional.
Collectively I have about ~15 hours between the two games. Some of my information comes from reading about it.

On Topic:

You get the heart no matter who you choose to play as and no matter wether you accept the mark or not. And yes, you can decline the Mark as Corvo too.

And yes, going non-lethal is more interested. Or at least varied, though they really should have given us baffle dust back and not more weird (useless) bolt types.

And in case anyone is interested: if you decline the Mark, you can still find and pick up Runes, they just work like all other sellable items (like Tyvian Ore, Bath Salts, Processed Whale Oil, etc) that are worth 200 coins each. You know, so you can get upgrades easier/faster to compensate for not having powers.
