Today I cried a little after reading this interview.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/new-game-engine-brings-hitman-absolution-to-the-masses/

Why do they have to go and fuck up one of the best gaming series of all time. I can already see the dumbed down version with quicktime events and fancy animated action scenes... The staying true to "hardcore fans" is probably an option that turns off the "tooltips".

Don't they understand the whole charm of the previous hitman games was the fucking difficulty level and the fact that you had to figure out pretty much everything yourself.... FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

The modern gaming audience, myself included, is too dumb to figure anything out. For those of you who have played Portal 2, you are officially smarter than me.

What a poorly written article....
Also they seem to love using the word "virtual".

OT: This doesn't seem too bad, but I know what you're saying. I can see why they're doing it but at the same time it is a little annoying - the formula doesn't need to be changed. I guess we'll just have to wait a bit longer to find out what has actually been changed for a....um...."less experienced" audience.

EDIT:

You can't be any worse that my mate - playing two-player with him was one of the most frustrating things I have ever done because he just did not understand it. The amount of times he killed us by cutting off a bridge....but I digress.

Normally I encourage dumbing down any game cause I'm a MASSIVE content tourist and not much else. But man, even I managed to figure out all the Hitman games without too much difficulty. It was never, ever too hard... maybe the clone level in the first one until you figure out the 'peak around wall and empty your machine gun cause they can't see you' exploit.

Eh, they didn't really say how much or in what fashion they were dumbing it down, so lets not get all alarmist. For all we know, they're just putting in an option for auto-aim and super easy mode, and that's what I will assume until further notice.

Christ, I would not want to be a game developer. Mention change in any fashion and half your fanbase declares it's ruined forever while the other half gears up to zero bomb the game as soon as it comes out.

dissapointing but hopefully it will bring new people to the franchise without actually diluting the quality... although ive yet to see a game actually accomplish that

Wow.

It sure doesn't take much to set us off.

"How dare you make a game that does not cater specifically to my tastes! I liked the previous games, therefor you owe me an eternal debt of servitude! Waaaaah!"

...

Grow the hell up.

oh for the love of God

Why the hell do people react like this?

When did the gaming community become this pathetic?
It never stopped. Where have you been? ...Actually this is kinda par for the course for all communities. Welcome to the world oh newborn user!

OT: ...I never really liked hitman, not because of the difficulty, it just always seemed to be irreparably broken. I'd be seen from across the level, during a heavy storm, in disguise, at night, laying on the ground under the cover of leaves, and the enemy would be facing the opposite direction. It got really really annoying...so I had no choice but to not play the game. I don't -hate- it. I just wish it worked properly for all the stuff I heard about it >_>

So I am all for dumbing it down if it makes it somewhat realistic....at least..believable maybe.

I don't mind a game being made more accessible. They need have a difficulty dial that allows us to experience the authentic hitman experience.

Yeah, this is a severe reaction to such a small amount of information. There's no reason as of yet to assume that the game won't be as challenging and engaging as the previous ones (on higher difficulties, at least).

EDIT: And that A.I sounds pretty good. Even if the different solutions to any given mission are easier to figure out, it sounds like the guards will have even greater capacity to make things unpleasant for you.

Because some games are very close to our hearts and we are worried (yes I agree we sometimes overreact) but we usually have valid reasons, so many gaming series have gone down the drain because the devs think they have found new ways to attract new customers, which very often instead alienates their core audience and fans who bought the previous games which then results in bad sales and the entire series being scrapped.

Maybe I'm overreacting and reading to much into the interview but the fact is that I have seen this so many times before, interviews with devs that say stuff like "we have made it more accessible" "we have streamlined the player experience" etc etc... Which usually are just words for "we have removed all that was fun and challenging in the previous titles and replaced it with press X not to die"

I'm not all that worried. They said they'd make the game easier to play, not make it easier. There's a big difference: how many times in Blood Money did you get an angle a little wrong and end up pushing somebody instead of headbutting them? Or accidentally pick a locked door right in front of a guard because it's the same button as opening it?

The previous Hitman games, especially on the hardest difficulties, have been relentlessly hard and not always in a good way: just standing next to a guard not doing anything, in a public area, in yor suit can sometimes set off their suspicion. Or let's not forget every guard in a level instantly becoming alert to you because one person saw you for the half second it took for you to shoot him. That is fake difficulty.

A new engine in itself doesn't change how the designers are going to make the game. If they said they were condensing combat and streamlining play for a wider audience, yeah I'd get suspicious. But building a new engine and better AI for the new game? Great!

I could not agree more. This has happened a thousand times before. I hope we're wrong in this case. 47 deserves better.

Lets face it its been 5 years! You cant expect IO to go back the the old stuff when the tech has advanced so much in that time. Maybe the gameplay will change but i hope to see a vast improvment in it no matter what.

Untill we actualy see some in game footage its a bit soon to be saying;
Why do they have to go and fuck up one of the best gaming series of all time.
When you have no proof of that even happening.

Remember that Blood Money did actually have a QTE to avoid death... it wasn't quite as simple as simply hitting X (required three headshots, good luck if you had a shotgun out!) but it was there...

Oh no....

It's been so log since the Hitman games anyway, I always thought it has been forgotten.

Yeah yeah, I realize I'm doing the whole "This game is my life and I will kill my self if you change it"
The thing is that the interview made me remember how many hours of awesomeness the hitman series has brought me over the years and reading it just gave me a feeling that the new one will not. I guess we will see next year.

Accessible =/= Easier.

Unless of course the difficulty comes from wrestling with the interface (like the old numpad-controlled 3D games). But then again that's never a good thing.

It's a general expectation that modern games should have better graphics (which could be argued as more accessible to most), so why shouldn't other aspects evolve as well?
