Racists in your family

I just had dinner with my family (hmmm, cheeseburger), and we were having a.. well, interesting conversation. Well not so much a conversation as it was my brother spewing hate about black people and saying how he wishes to put them on an island and bomb it. Real interesting indeed.
Sadly most of my family members are like this, so when I expressed a different opinion they just looked at me with this weird look on their faces, "you don't hate people because of their colour, boy what's wrong with you?"
Well it didn't take me long to finish eating and hurry back upstairs.

I'm sure most people have at least one family member like this (if not, you are one lucky bastard), so..
Post your horror stories about good ol' racist aunt Sally and jew-hating uncle Jim, and seek comfort.

Well, my grandparents are like that, but not as vocal about it. But they are old, so it's OK.

You said your brother was like that? Might want to get him some black/jew/asian friends (or get them yourself and hang out around him, just make sure they are the non-violent type...) to change his views.

WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?

My Grandparents hate white people.
And I hate white people.
And I and my grandparents are white.

Fortunately I do not have any racist family members. I'm half Italian, and some of my family served in WWII on the axis side, and even they aren't racist. I think that in Europe, racism is lass prevalent than other forms of discrimination, and as more and more cultures mix in this globalised world, racism should die out before long. Good to hear you can think for yourself, and not be mindlessly conditioned by your surroundings, big thumbs up! :)

My parents are pretty damn stealthy about their racism, but sometimes it bubbles to the surface and it's ugly. My mother seems to have a particular gripe with Romanians -- she is of the opinion that they are all thieves.

Cripes.

my father's family are huge bigots. they claim not to be racist (they're much too "high brow" for something redneck like racism), but their actions and comments all belie their claim. in fact, we're pretty sure we have a touch of Korean in our blood from their side of the family, but they won't ever admit it. we're white, btw.

My dad is a cop and he's racist. He is black but just seems to hate everyone else. Me I have just personal dislikes of stereotypes that certain groups perpetuate.

Damn Scots! They ruined Scotland!

Nah, thankfully my parents aren't racist. They just hate foreigners coming to our country and 'tekin ar jeeerbs! Getting something for nothing (via benefits). I'd say right-wing, not racist. Which is weird because I'm probably the biggest liberal in the family.

I feel very weird. My family is a family of rational, sane people. They're 'normal.' ITS SO STRANGE! Everyone else has some kind of a black sheep in their family, but there are none in mine. They're all so straight-edged and accepting of pretty much everything... No racist grandparents, no bigot cousins, my parents support gay marriage... Straight and narrow.

HELP ME. I NEED CONFLICT.
^sarcasm.

I'm pretty lucky that no one in my family is racist. Or sexist.
Or bigoted.
Although, my dad does seem to getting fed up with the amount of foreigners where we live.
At least 10% of the official population where we live are Polish.
I'm just more annoyed by all the chavs and drug users in the area >.>
Well, I've never seen anything to suggest that any of them hold racist sentiments.
Hell, my sister's (former) boyfriend is black. We all liked him.

My parents are a bit xenophobic, my dad is a bit bigoted against Hispanics/Latinos. I have an uncle on my mom's side who makes all sorts of disparaging comments about black people even though his wife is mixed race.

Do you live in Louisiana? Anyway, I have a lot of Hispanic family and they can hate on whities when the mood strikes them, and my grandad on my dad's side, is sorta racist, not really racist but... culturally misinformed I guess you could say...or you could say he's racist, I wouldn't blame you.

What Europe is this?

Spain where they chant monkey noises at black football players?
Spain where they dress up as Minstrels and monkeys when black racers visit during F1?
Poland where they have anti Jewish/black gangs?
Romania where they throw bananas on the pitch at black footballers?
Russia where they have anti-black gangs?
Poland/slovakia/romania/russia/estonia where they have hugh neo-nazi movements?
Bosnia/serbia/croatia where they had ethnic clensing in the 1990s?

I don't know about your Europe, but the one I live in has a strictly civilised/medieval split down the middle

My Dad can be racist when hes agnry, he does end racists jokes, and when hes annoyed at someone foreign he'll be racist about them...behind there back

I personally welcome all races etc etc, but one thing I cant stand is when they insult you in their foregin home language ( And I know they are, they make it so obvious)

Another one is when people butt in to private conversations in the name of racism. In my friendship group we do have light hearted racist insults, in which everyone laughs at, as it is both ways and we know were not actually racist (I didnt start this btw) But others jump in with death threats, which then causes the guy whos the same race to explain how they need to not worry and not get so worked up, which is annoying, I mean, why are they listening anyway, our group is fairly quiet.

No, Im not racist.

My grandma... my caucasion grandma at that, is not really racist, more like prejudiced, and supports stereotypes. You also have to understand that she comes from a time when everyone segregated everyone all the time! It's kind of funny when you go places with her because she has no problem with saying things like, "Oh well she is a pretty girl, for a colored!" or "You know, for a Mexican he is sure honest." Seriously it's outrageous sometimes, but she's old nand entitled I guess, no to mention that half of her own grandchildren like myself are hald mexican.... I find it more humorous then insulting.
