Why was This user TitanAtlas Banned.
I actually have no idea who he is and frankly i believe he was banned for what... stating his opinion?

His post
"So aniway... who are you to judge others?... I dislike EA and decided not to give them MY money, and get the game for free. Going to dumb things down for you. I have a curiosity of how the story plays out in the end. But other then watching a retard playthrough from [insert unfunny commentator or youtuber here], i decided i want to play the game. But my hate for the new changes and for the company itself makes me NOT want to buy the game. Out by the sheer of possibility and curiosity i have decided to download the game for free. With this i BOTH don't give money to EA AND get to watch the ending by my own terms [and not of somebody else]. Not like i download games from every single other company.

But please go ahead and tell me how to use my money, or what to do. Cuz you know, you are the answer to everyone problems. Thinking ahead, you could be worst then me. Heck you couldv done worst things then me. So Who are you to judge others upon what they chose to do.

If you love the game so much, FINE go buy it. I'm not tellign what you should or shouldn't do. But please, don't go all Jiminy Cricket over something that doesn't concern you."

He was banned for saying that ^
Why? he only stated his opinion.
Yes you should not pirate a game but that is no reason to ban him.
We all pirate music "dont kid your self"
Anyway, My random good deed for the day.
Also i am not calling the admin out that banned him.
Only asking the reasoning for it.

Well, he did say he was going to pirate the game. And he "justified" in a typical fashion, which is to say he didn't. Finally, he was being a jerk about it.

That good enough?

EDIT: funny coincidence (for me at least) is that I came to this topic right after writing a comment about people justifying piracy.

Link for anyone who wants to see the actual post [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.352923-And-just-like-that-Origin-will-have-thousands-of-new-users-ME3?page=3#14002900]

First up a small correction, he wasn't banned, he was suspended for 3 days. He was suspended for advocating games piracy which is quite rightly against the forum rules. Also though it doesn't affect the application of the rule, as DoPo mentioned above he was using a shit justification, if a game is good enough to be worth pirating then it's good enough to buy.

It's directly against the code of conduct.

Similarly, posts including, advocating, or linking to illegal or adult material are a very quick way to end your time as part of The Escapist community. An example of these are:
Piracy
When they agree to the code of conduct then don't follow it, it's every reason to ban them. Plus I think they'd already racked up a fairly bad forum health rating (though I may be getting this mixed up with another banning recently) so had already had their warnings.

EDIT: I was getting mixed up, he's up to suspension now, banning is the next step up (more or less).

Advocating or condoning piracy is against the rules here. And I'm just guessing but maybe this wasn't the first rule he/she broke

He claimed to pirate the game in order to test it before buying. Admitting to Piracy is a bannable offense.

I actually don't pirate music. Can't speak for my dad, from whom I get most of my albums (I don't ask) but I have never knowingly downloaded music for free unless it actually legally cost nothing (like this live album Coldplay did). Stop projecting. Oh by the way, you basically admitted to piracy too, so expect at least a warning soon.

He was practically criticising someone for not pirating a game - and with awful spelling, too. I can see why he was suspended.

Got to say that it is really easy to get banned from this place. Alot of people that have no warnings probably should and vice versa. Literally feels like your playing the lottery on here when it comes to stuff that will get you banned. Very long time ago, but I got a warning for cussing. After seeing other people cuss, I figured it was alright. Now there is the other crap where you are one post away from being banned, they just find any reason to get rid of you. The piracy thing is not what they like then I suppose you throw the ban hammer at him. Yeah but it still seems to me that alot of people are getting banned for just stating their opinion. Like the fact that they don't want you to go after people and start trolling. Alot of the posts on here from different people are rude as shit, they have perfect health meters.
'Don't be a jerk' is the most important rule here, from what I've gathered, along with putting effort into your posts. As long as your posts are reasoned, not massively inflammatory, and aren't calling other users morons etc then you're fine. The strict rules are worth it as they allow very good discussion in comparison to other forums.

Swearing isn't in and of itself against the rules, so that alone wasn't why you got a warning.

Got to say is you were not there, so don't tell me how I got my warning. All I could see that was wrong with my post was cussing. Loathe when people do this. Very much have no idea because I wasn't there, but this is what happened.
Eh, it doesn't matter that we weren't there, Evilneko is right that swearing on it's own is most definitely not against the rules. People swear all the time on these forums with impunity. Maybe you were swearing at another user, that's against the rules and so would have earned you a warning? If it was unjustified why didn't you appeal? I've seen even permanent bans get over-turned before because technically it turned out the user hadn't broken the rules.

For crimes against the English language.

Also, something about piracy.
Oh, how terribly I wish that was a bannable offence. Sadly we'd have to make concessions for those who are not native English speakers, because I'd much rather read bad English than good Russian.

Also OP, thank you for making a wild generalization, I have never pirated a single song. I have iTunes and an excellent internet radio, what possible purpose would I have to illegally download music when any song I wish to hear is either being streamed online by licensed distributors?

And finally, has the captcha changed for anyone else? I got "forbidden fruit" and there are no splotches or distrotions which make it entirely illegible, this is nice, and I approve. I also like my entire post is about piracy and I get that for a captcha, it's like it knows!

I can think of two reasons for the suspension:

1. It is against the code of conduct for the site to advocate piracy

2. Moderators are building up the strength of the ban hammer because March Mayhem is a coming and the ban hammer is used quite a lot during that time, because, stuff gets heated here, like, thermo-nuclear reaction heated.

You DID type "I AGREE" to a list of rules before you were able to post, on that list was "Thou Shalt Not Advocate Piracy".

This isn't infringement on free speech, you HAVE to follow the rules when posting on private forums. End of.

EDIT: Wrote "public" instead of "private". Derp.

I want you to look around the site. Pay attention to the ads. You see them? You notice how a lot of them have to deal with video games? Logical right. Video game site advertising video games. You wanna know what publishers and developers generally don't like? Piracy. What do you figure are the odds a publisher would want spend their good ad money on a site that allows piracy to run rampant? Yes, the mods go a little overboard, often crushing well-reasoned and adult discussion, but it helps keep the site free. It is not because the entirety of the Escapist hates piracy, it is that the people paying the bills do, and you have to give them a certain leeway.
Also, please keep you broad generalizations away from me. I don't pirate music and don't plan to now.
Captcha: sacred cow. Seems a little apt.
