Lately I've been trying to pass the time on my breaks at work with the SAO mobile game (Yeah yeah, SAO, literally Satan, worst thing ever, SCREEEEEEEEEEEEE-) and the game is those types of mobile games where you spend currency that you can pay real money for to get characters from the series. This game has a lot, so the average rate is between 0.1-0.83% of rolling a specific character. Twice I've managed to save up enough of the currency without paying and the results were... questionable.

The game has a deal that if you use enough currency for 10 characters, it gives a free 11th character. Awesome. But it was hardly worth it I find. Despite my REALLY low chances of getting a specific character, I only got 4 new ones, none of them being the highest rarity, and all 7 of the others were duplicates. What's worse, despite less a than 1% chance of it happening, I got the same character twice, and then duplicates of another character three times.

It was insane, I was really annoyed by this. Today I saved up enough again and rolled once more. Got a 4 star (max rank), two 3 stars, and the other 8? All duplicates again, with two more cases of getting the same character twice, which were already characters I got on the last random draw three times each.

Is this game rigged?! Less than 1% chance out of soooooo many characters, and yet somehow I've got the same 2-3 people around 10 times. Am I missing something? Are you only guaranteed a certain amount of 3-4 star characters and the rest will always be 2 star trash? This stuff blows

Yeah, random draws in games with MTs usually are like gambling in a casino: odds aren't in your favor. Draws are fixed so you have one or two rare results, and the rest common in each draw. But they usually tell you that. I haven't checked if that's the case with SAO mobile though. Maybe it was just bad luck.

These games require a VERY specific attitude/outlook if one is to enjoy them. Specifically, a casual, go with the flow, whatever happens happens attitude. No goals allowed. Just see what you get and have the most fun you can without spending real money. If you want to achieve anything beyond looking at random cute/cool images of your favorite series for a few mins each day then you either will have to spend a LOT of real money which you could use to buy figures or posters or art-books instead, or, like you are right now, you will be majorly let down at your inability to get anything going like one expects with real games.

At least SAO has actual videogames for ps4/vita which are good games (much better than the anime imo) so you don't need to play the mobile trash. Other series are not quite that fortunate.

Booster packs is pretty much what kept me away from getting deep into TCGs in real-life. I don't enjoy spending money in something that I can't tell if I'll be able to even use beforehand (and I'm also cheap :) ).

You don't need to open packs to play real life tcgs, you just buy the specific cards your deck needs from shops or online after looking up a list and making up your mind for the kind of deck you wanna use. Booster packs are for draft or just uber casual players/little kids.

From what I can tell, it doesn't. Despite the % chances, I only got 1 other 4 star besides the one guaranteed with the current draw promotion they have going. If I knew what to expect, I wouldn't have been let down so hard both times.

All true, but back when I was younger I was super into Chaotic (If anyone even remotely remembers that game), and I found the boosters for that game were actually really good. Every pack I had came with some extremely useful stuff, mostly because the game has equipment you could use and "mugic" spells, so you had a great chance of finding something useful and not "Oh, a low strength monster card, yaaayyy." If the monsters sucked, you at least had a good chance of finding some very useful equipment or spells in the packs as well . The game was fun too
