You have an item that is extremely powerful and could potentially change the world for better....or worse. You have been approached by different groups asking for possession of the object. One group wants the powerful item to bring about order through use of its power. Another wants to bring a new world using the power of the object and another wants to hide the object because it is dangerous for the entire planet should it fall into the wrong hands. But you have ideas of your own, thinking that maybe you can change the world yourself. So the question is, if you had the power to change the world literally in your hands, what would you do with it?

I'd move the human population (and its domesticated plants and animals and also a breeding collection of pollination related bugs/animals) off-world or to a parallel one so we're not floating around on a spacecraft and try to undo as much of the damage we hath wrought upon this planet if the device allows for it. It was better before we screwed it up IMO. And also get rid of money in such a way that everyone can just be without getting screwed over by the 1% since this device is so powerful.

Well the noble way would be to solve the worlds problems like starvation, war, global warnings, the recession etc, well make it perfect for everyone on Earth (that is depending how powerful this item is).
Granted if I was selfish and stupid I would make superheroes and villain into reality in my imagine (it's selfish since that will only make more problems and solution but I will have one hell of an adventure that is if I am aware I was the cause of it all).

I'd go ahead and change the world on my own, since if I just followed one of those groups we (they)'d just be 'changing' it in name only (i.e. removing whatever obstacles where in their way, but keeping everything else the same). I have quite a big plan for such an eventuality. Now to wait for it to happen...

A few things I'd like to see done (limiting myself to items that are at least technically possible):

A worldwide hegemony is established with a great deal of political, economic, and military leverage. Its purpose is to maintain the long term well being of humanity on the whole, while otherwise interfering with the sovereignty of member countries as little as reasonably possible. Its purview would include things like environmental regulations, prevention of large scale conflicts, a global task force intended to deal with groups like the Taliban, etc.

Creation of a ring of buckytube GTS elevators linked to space docks, each with its own massive solar array. Aside from the HUGE reduction in space flight costs, this would serve another much needed purpose. Unlike on earth, solar collection in space is a highly efficient means of gathering electricity. As for getting that energy back down here, among its other properties, buckytube material happens to be a highly efficient superconductor.

High speed MagLev train network linking all major cities.

Very well funded genetic research center, with an ultimate goal of finding safe and ethical means of improving human lives, directly and otherwise.

I'd try not to make any radical changes too quickly, as it's obviously a powerful object. After a trial period of a few months I would see the effect of sensible changes like increasing education & long-term development in developing countries, moving to renewable energy, and regulating capitalism a bit better. I would also make a gigantic fort guarded by an army of loyal henchmen to stop the object falling into someone else's hands.

Step 1--Erase all knowledge of the device, and indeed of me, from the organizations and all other people.
Step 2--Create unobtrusive island fortress. Actually a fortress on the dark side of the moon, if the device can do that.
Step 3--Begin doing a *lot* of very unpopular but long-term beneficial things for humanity, the first of which will be setting things up so that for the next 4 generations every man can only father 1 child and every woman can only bear 1 child. If my existence is known I'm sure this will earn me the title of _____ the merciless.
Step 4--Shenanigans. What good is that kind of power if you can't have a little fun with it.

Link all humans with a massive hive mind and create peace via subjecting every man, women, and child to imagery and sensations that destroy innocence before it creates naivety. In addition, a prime directive will be installed: progress and progression of Humanity even at the expense of emotions, happiness, and even the human body itself.

In addition, individuals capable of being moral posts or ubermench will be given powers beyond imagination and turned into immortal kamitsuki: they will serve as the arbiters of the new world and enforce the ideals of progress and pragmatism at all cost

Finally, when Humanity can't rise higher, I use the device to make everyone ascend the primal animalistic parts of society and create gods.

I would probably try to just suck up it's power for myself and just... leave. Probably erase any memory of myself from earth and try to explore the universe. I know I'm not smart enough, even with all that power, to solve all the worlds problems. And even if I tried, most people would probably dislike the change in one way or another. So might as well take my one, imposible dream: to explore the universe, or the multiverse as it may be.

First off, I'd have everybody else who knew of the object forget about it. After that...

Well, if you solve all the world's existing problems, there will just be more to replace them. You'd have to rewrite reality on a fundamental level to solve all problems permanently, and while that might be possible with this device, such a world would be incredibly boring.

So, I'd probably follow the example of Tolkien's mythology: rather than solving problems the easy way, through direct application of power, I'd use the object to help people help themselves. The right words said to the right people would probably accomplish quite a bit, and I'd use the object to show me who needs to hear what.
