I can't stand Rap becuasethe VAST majority is a pile of sexist, racist, religous, or otherwise diturbing to my sensibilities. However good rap is out there. 4 rappers I don't mind:

Afroman
Cypress Hill
(Song) Remember the Name (Fort Minor I think...)
Tupac

I much prefer a blast of Rise Against or Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog.

USSR

Probably your average communist.

Hurrah for universal acceptance!

This is find, and I get that. As mentioned before, it's just not to someone's taste, and I respect that, the same way I don't like most country singers and such. Nothing personal, just not for me. But I just hate when people will condemn an entire genre because of a few songs. Though I don't like most country singers, I won't ever say I don't like country, because it's not really true.

I dunno, I just hate the closed-mindedness of it, I suppose.

I'll admit to accepting what is called -ahem- "Old School" rap.

Also I first read the title as "Rape Music"
Is there a song that fits rape? I mean like a scene where someone's getting raped, can you think of a song that would fit such a scene?

[Note to self: Stop letting mind wander]
/Lol

Also by old school rap I hope you mean some awesome MC Hammer shit man. That and Vanilla Ice.
I still remember the Ninja Rap by Vanilla Ice....
Possibly, may need to check the Old school section of Sirius to make sure I've got the right kind, seeing as you aren't sure what I meant.

Can you think of a Rape song?
"Smilin Faces Sometimes" by The Undisputed Truth. I just think it would be a hilarious mix >_>

One of the most common misconceptions about hip-hop on the whole.
To say that the vast majority are anything is an ignorant statement because the amount of hip-hop outside the mainstream and underground is staggering. Just because mainstream hip-hop artists are ignorant, doesn't mean that gives you license to be about a whole movement of music.

I swear it's the Escapist's reaction to hip-hop that disgusts me more than anything. Shout out to Chrome Alchemist for having so much love for hip-hop on all these threads.

I don't hate rap. The style doesn't appeal to me much and I don't think much of the lyrics. My music is more fast paced and more exciting to listen to. That's it.

Here is a Modern Hip-Hop artist who is an example of what Hip-Hop should have evolved into. Rather than that mainstream nonsense.

One of my favourites, he's a Canadian, so any of you who may be prejudice towards Canadians and therefore will hate it simply because I've told you he is Canadian be aware!

I wouldn't say I hated Rap. I certainly dislike the sort of stuff that's all "I'll pop an cap in yo ass then shag the nearest women who has a bum the size of Jupiter". I've listened to a few of the names bandied about here, just to make sure I get a decent idea about other stuff. But I don't particularly like that either. Not in a "I hate it, It makes my ears bleed" sort of way, I just don't like it. I feel like there's no substance to it.
I'm listening to "Nothing Ever Happes" by Del Amitri right now. All that is is a bloke singing, an acoustic guitar and an accordian and I feel that it has more substance than a rap song (in my unlearned opinion)

I agree!

We should rap about how our mom will take away "TV time" if we don't do the homework assigned to us.

Does that suit your gentle needs?

Because there's no music in it. Your title is incorrect.
This, for the most part. Rap isn't really singing, and when you compound that with how most rap is about things I can't relate to whatsoever and features terrible backing 'music', you end up with something I'm profoundly uninterested in.

This is not to say I loathe rap universally, I just don't much care for the genre as a rule - there are a few artists/songs here and there that verge into rap or utilize it along with other stylistic forms that I don't mind, and while I don't love nerdcore I at least find it hilarious.

At the core, I think the reason I don't like it is that it doesn't really go anywhere - something a great deal of popular music from a plethora of genres is equally guilty of. By not going anywhere I mean that if you were to chart the ebb and flow of the song musically, what you'd get is essentially a straight line from start to finish, a musical landscape devoid of chasms or soaring mountains, something the vocal delivery of rap does nothing to help with. I can't stand club jazz for much the same reason - in my mind, it's a musical journey consisting of running in place for a while.

Ha ha silly, you've massacred the English language trying to speak about rap being guilty of the same thing. Hypocrisy or Irony? I mean you've made rap seem quite a bit more literate while trying to discredit it, and you've made the same mistake you condemn. BOTH! Yay!
