RE6 has a demo out on the PSN! So if you didn't get Dragon's Dogma you finally get a chance to play it. It probably has one for the 360 too but I don't have one so I can't confirm.

What was your overall reaction to it? Did it make you more excited for it's release or did you lose all hype? Which character was your favorite to play?

Seeing as mine is only ay 7% downloaded on my third world country internet I won't be able to play it for a while. Still I'm calling it right here and now, Leon's part is fun, Chris's part is terrible and the other guy's part is meh.

Yeah, it is out for 360 as well, was playing it earlier today. And you're right (in my opinion) Leon's part is the best, Chris' part the worst and Jake's is okay.

(Spits out milk) What!?! I must confirm this!

(Sprints upstairs, kicking a terrified pet cat out of the way and switches the PS3 on)

Fucking awesome! Downloading that right now!

I was disappointed, although this could be because I've played the series from the beginning and had to watch as goes from intense pulse pounding mind fucking on the edge of your seat survival/horror/puzzle game to Call of Gears of Zombies 6.

The whole game is just meh, Melee attacks and combos are absurdly OP so the dangers of running out of ammo isn't even there, not that you will because there is either A) ammo everywhere or B) you are carrying enough guns to commit a war crime.

Leon's mission is reminescent of RE2 that you have to escape Raccoon city so it was kind of refreshing until I had akimbo handguns and kung-fu kicks.

Chris's mission is World War Zombie and there are tanks everywhere and all the enemies have guns and giant shield arms.

Jake's mission is as far as I can tell you trying to cure the infection, to be honest I don't really know I stopped paying attention at that point.

I for one probably won't be getting this game.

I only had time to run through Leon's part of the story (As Leon), but the demo was super short. I guess it makes up for it by having the three separate stories, but...it made me sad. They do let you play with other people in the demo though, which I found surprising. Especially because of the aforementioned shortness.

I'm definitely getting the game though. Haven't missed an RE game yet, and I don't plan on starting now.

I didn't get to play the demo early. When I tried to redeem the code, PSN told me that it was already used or invalid(even though my game was brand new, I had it pre-ordered so I know it was). I still have to wait for it to download before I can play it, though(shitty internet). So I'll see it soon!

What an absolute trainwreck of a demo.

The frame rate was atrocious

The aiming had the laser pointer drunkenly flying around the screen inside a clunky reticule,

The camera was so jerky it made the Blair Witch Project jealous.

Zombies that I can't shoot even though I KNOW they're going to wake up and attack on my way back through the level.

I've seen better textures on 360 launch titles. It looked a lot lower quality than RE5 to my eyes, and way too dark.

Being forced to do stupid, idiotic things like walk through metal detectors even though there's a desk next to it I should be able to jump over.

And that's all before you get to the frankly farcically bad cover shooting bits... urgh. Horrid in all the wrong ways.

Well, I played the demo early since I did buy Dragon's Dogma (a fantastic game by the way).

Based on the demo, I'm definitely not interested in buying this game.

The Leon campaign seemed okay...I guess? It's just that nothing about it really stuck with me. So at the very least I suppose I can call it average. It's totally possible that it was due to the fact that there simply wasn't enough of this story.

The thing that really did bother me though was the insane amount of really visible and obvious screen-tearing during the demo. I noticed it especially during the cut-scenes. I don't know if they plan on fixing this issue in the full-release (hopefully they do), but this was such a huge negative for me.

Chris' mission was hilariously ridiculous. It was the antithesis of Leon's mission in terms of atmosphere and game feel. I felt the controls to be a bit off too.

I thought Jake did somewhat feel like some kind of middle of the road approach to it. You weren't exactly just blowing everything in your way up, but it was still pretty bombastic and action-packed in terms of the atmosphere.

This is all based on the impressions that I can remember from the demo way back when it came out. I simply do not care enough to play it again.

Oh and the silly command system between you and the A.I partner really reminds me of how flawed the incessant voices of the pawns from Dragon's Dogma were. The system is just silly in that you can spam commands and it's only a few lines of different lines. It's not a deal-breaker by any means. It was just something silly that stuck with me.

Right I downloaded and promptly played the demo and here are my thoughts:

Leon

Most enjoyable part of the demo, the controls were based on the RE4/5 set-up only a lot more fluid, meaning I could dish out those sweet roundhouse kicks and save precious rounds with greater ease then ever before. The university campus was reasonably atmosphereic and quite tense when all the zombie tennis players barged in through the windows. Not particularly scary though but I've come to terms with the fact that the series just isn't survival horror anymore. All in all: great!

Chris

Nowhere near as good as Mr Kennedy's section, the cover shooting mechanics are as fiddly as hell and I kept getting stuck to walls whilst trying to lean out and blast some Edonian jerk in the face. Don't think I need to say anything about the (lack of) tension here but I do rather like the idea of contempory war-zones becoming infested with biological weaponary. I thought it was cool in Dino Crisis and its cool here! Still, the weakest part of the demo.

Jake

Eh? Bwuh? Jwhu? Who the hell is Jake Mueller? Why are his hands counted as weapons? Since could shoot? China!?! Admittingly I've not been keeping up with the previews but I was still wondering what the hell was going on in that bit-not too shabby though, once I got into the flow of things it reminded me of grinding for the best rank in various Mercenaries levels as Wesker.

In summary, I am still definitely going to get this game as soon as possible!

Not that I doubt you for a second, but a friend wants me to play it co-op so it's got to be tested out for myself, I prepare myself to come back and say "You called it".

This all the fucking way.

I don't know who the fuck at Capcom thought this crosshair and red dot reticle combo was a good idea. It sucks so hard now it completely breaks the shooting action. After you unload that first round making those headshots is just outright impossible.

But even with a solid aim, the game is so fucking dark you can hardly see where the enemies are. In Leon's run I was constantly running into zombies, because they just fade into the background untill you're right on top of them.

The controls are loose and twitchy as hell. There's no weight or heft behind any of the actions you make, not in the same way there was in RE4 and even RE5. In those games, when you punched, or kicked, or shot something you felt the impact behind it. In RE6 nothing you do, whether it's punching or kicking, registers with any kind of force at all.

This is a fucking debacle of a game that tries to appeal to the old Resident Evil fans while at the same time trying to bring in the shooter crowd. A similar thing was said about RE5, but it's so much worse now.

Resident Evil 6 makes Resident Evil 5 look like Resident Evil 4.

Does this really come as a surprise to those who were disappointed by Resident Evil 5 and paid attention to the previews? This is supposed to the biggest Capcom game ever, with many employees pulled away from other projects are just working on something that screams unoriginality.

I'll play the whole thing because I care enough to see what's in store, but I won't be expecting anything groundbreaking.

i was no impressed at all. only played the leon part and a little part of the jake guy, but i was not impressed. QTE's that we or way to fast or stupidly slow. a laser dot who wanted to see more of the world and doesn't stand still and the fact i can't shoot obvious zombies who aren't dead and waiting on me to act.

i never had bought a resident evil game, but i had some interest in them. this game is really not helping me liking the series.

You can turn that crosshair off and revert back to the laser-sight aim a-la RE4 and 5. If you find yourself playing the demo again, try switching the laser sight back on and tell that crosshair to go fuck itself.

That being said, the aim with laser sight is still oddly twitchy and jerky. I cannot tell what causes this, but I think there may be some sort of soft aim-assist, which as far as I know cannot be turned off. And I don't even know if this is the case because the twitchiness seemed entirely random. Sometimes my aim would lock onto random body parts, sometimes it won't.

After 2 Resident Evils that used this aiming system, which was basically perfect in both games, I don't know how they managed to screw this up now.

I also agree with this. Weapons feel incredibly 'floaty' and do not have the same tight feeling as they did in the previous games. Especially with the random aim twitches, it seems more rewarding to spray bullets at your enemies than to precisely aim. I am disappointed how Capcom managed to fuck up smaller gameplay details that become annoying in the long run.

But I am still looking forward to it. It should still be a lot of fun to play, especially with a friend.

Well, I expected something at least on par with RE5, not a game that's even more of a nose dive.

Capcom really has outdone themselves. They've totally turned me off of a franchise which I have always been commited to despite certain shitty entries. The only thing that'll rekindle my interest now is if they bring Shinji Mikami back on board.

Well, I finally got around to playing this demo, I'm not impressed. The Leon campaign was ok I suppose, despite the fact that I couldn't see anything even with the brightness turned right up to full. The zombies looked a moved like shit, (which probably why the game is so dark). The shooting seems a bit hollow and the fighting is unresponsive and the camera turns it into a bit of a clusterfuck.

Chris campaign is a bit dull, but at least I can see whats going on this time, which is a plus. However, the complaints I have with Leons campaign apply to Chris as well. And I'm not sure why they are limiting my ammo when this is the run and gun bit of the game and you've got me fighting an El Giganti type monster, seems a bit odd to me.

I finally figured out how to take cover, it is the the least intuative thing ever. Also, Jakes campaign can go die in a fire, maybe then I could see whats going on. Same complaints as the other 2 campaigns and there are the enemies that have 3 different forms, aren't scary and are just no fun to fight.

So no, I 'm not buying this, if I want to play the full game I'll borrow it from my Resident Evil mad friend. Some of the complaints I have with the game may be fixed in the full game, but it just seems to be a huge step backwards. The gameplay was pretty much perfect in RE4 and it just seems to have gotten worse since.

I wish I had a console right now so that I, too, could be unimpressed with this demo.

Well, I've only played one; but this is something the Anthology will shortly remedy.
