How dare that thumbnail tease me with the idea of an Iron Giant 2.

But....this movie and its mere concept is just dumb, its litirally pop culture references the movie while combining the recent trend of VR gaming.

And yet I am mildly curious.
Of course it's pop culture references the movie, because it's based on a book that is pop culture references the book. Why is this at all puzzling to you? The whole freaking book is exactly about that. Virtual Reality, and 80's pop culture.

OT: They had RUSH in the trailer, I'm instantly in favor of this film.
All I know is the movie is gonna be so dated.
....is that supposed to be a joke? Are were you seriously trying to criticize a movie specifically about nostalgia, and making dated references, for being dated?

Honestly, it looks like pandering, overly referencial hipster trash. And maybe it a bit hypocritical for me to say that because one of my honest to god favourite movies ever made is Scott Pilgrim vs The World about which you might very well be able to say the same but, you know, that one had a genuinely relatable love story in there.
Really? Because I can't say I found anything relatable in that movie apart from Knives.

OT: It looks... okay.

The visual effects look a bit quantity over quality though. And honestly what was the last movie tackling videogames/videogame culture that wasn't garbage? Movies about escaping to a virtual dreamworld in general never really make me feel the stakes.

Book's alright, not as good as Christopher Brookmyre's Bedlam by any stretch, but a reasonably fun time.

I really hope they keep Art3mis fat like she was in the book.
She was fat too? That basically means they were all fat "irl". All I remember was that Art3mis had a big birthmark over her face.

Parzival makes repeated references to her being Rubenesque, IE resembling one of Rubens' nudes, which were almost universally meaty and curvy.

Alright. However, she won't be fat. They're not going to plump up a thin 24-yo actress. Not even digitally, I'll bet.

I have no idea what to make of this to be brutally honest. The book's been on my to-read list for ages so I don't really know what it's about but from the trailer the film seems to be mostly pop-culture references and a sci-fi Matrix-y cyberworld plot underneath it? I dunno, the references seem to be the main draw at the minute and that really doesn't do it for me - I remember Scott Pilgrim being a bit like this and I couldn't stand that.

You kinda right from what you gather from the trailer and yes the references was HEAVY in the book. Granted I know how much references they can put in other than Speilberg stuff. I mean there were reference to retro games and films, cartoon and Asian related stuff aswell.
As with the cyberworld, it basically what VR aspire to be in the future. The book/ film VR console is called Oasis and within it you can pretty find anything in a form of different theme planets (there was a WoW planet, Star Wars etc althought not everything is gaming related).

Complains about modern movie being dated while also wanting every comic book movie to be dark and gritty like it's fucking 1992.
