Well summer is coming to a close and fall is on its way, and i always get in the mood for good horror stories around this time of year, so can anyone reccomend a good book about zombies or werewolves (they are my favorite subjects =P)? Preferably something set in a more present day setting (reading lovecraftian/poetic stories gets old) I have read the resident evil adaptations though, they were fun!

World War Z by Max Brooks is a really, really good zombie book. It's just so entertaining and so gripping that it takes some effort to put down.

I've never read a werewolf book, so I can't recommend one.

Try reading the original Dracula by Bram Stoker, if you haven't already. It's a facinating read to see where the vampire stories began, and see what powers and intricasies vampires had in the beginning, and what has stayed the same, what has been changed and what has been dropped entirely.

Also I'm not sure if it counts, [I suppose it does, he's technically a zombie] Read the original Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. It's incredible

Stephen King's Cell is an interesting take on a modern zombie outbreak. I read all five hundred or so pages in a few days and would recommend it highly.

You might like the Night Watch series. It's got vampire and werewolves in it, and is pretty dark. I haven't read them in a while, but I remember really enjoying the series.

Oh yes, The thing that amazed me about Frankenstein was just how much popular culture has changed about the characters and story. They even get the names wrong in most cases.

Staying on the theme of old horror books, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, it's not vampires or Werewolves, but it's only about 40 pages long, and again is a blooming great read. The old ones are the best.

I know, I was expecting long monologues on the ethics of creation, in a dark castle somewhere surrounded by angry mobs, but like 10 pages in he basically goes:
"Here's what I made, deal with it" Not even a mention of lightning or body snatching, although both are hinted at.
I was shocked by it, and found it about 100 times better than the modern conception of it.
But I suppose the same is true for Dracula also, modern portrayals of him focus purely on Transylvania, but the book ditches that within 4 chapters.

I would also second the zombie survival guide as said above, it always pays to be prepared.

I second this it is a good Zombie world book, however for a good Vampire book look for Dampire by Barb & J. C. Hendee, its not so much of horror as action horror, but its good cheese vampire fun and i enjoyed it and all its sequels.

Also Abraham Lincoln Vampire hunter is both awesome and scary/funny.

Go to the forums pick where the discussion goes (off topic, games, ect) and look in the right hand side there should be a button that says New Topic.

Even though I have a couple problems with the series, I'm inclined to recommend The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Wizard detective who investigates supernatural crimes that the police cannot handle. Some very fun characters, and of course everything from vampires, ghosts, zombies, fae, magic, angels, and demons.

If you like a sarcastic geek character running around solving supernatural mysteries, you would like this.

* As a side note, they made a television series based off the books. I absolutely hate it but it is out there.

(More info on it, plus pretty pictures)

Pride and Prejudice... and Zombies

It's ACTUALLY not that bad. Some parts were comical and and there are more satisfying ending for unlikeable minor characters.

Well, Its not a book but a graphic novel, you might wanna check out the first trade paperback of "The Astounding Wolf-Man" by Robert Kirkman. its a solid combination of superheroes and supernatural beings

I second World War Z, my mate says its amazing. Meant to nothing like the film they're making, which is currently being film in Glasgow...even though its set in philadelphia, i think (the film i mean).

I should probably go have a look-see at the set =/
