Simply, the title.
For me it was Crusader Kings 2 and Rayman Origins (both off Steam).
For Crusader Kings, I was deterred by the game's association to Europa Universalis 3. I like strategy games, but I don't have the time to spend a week just learning the most basic principals. CK2, however, has a comprehensive tutorial, and promised to base itself more on personal interactions between characters than other games. So, I tried it.
150 hrs later... It was worth every penny. It might not be the best game ever, but it provides legitimately unique gameplay that also happens to be fun (a rarity in the industry, I know).
Rayman, on the other hand, I picked up mainly because I've been jonesing for a good platformer, and it was only $30 for the PC version. Very fun game, I'm glad I made that purchase, too.
