So I have finally quit world of warcraft, Even deleted my characters so I would have nothing to come back to. I tried Star Wars Old Republic, just didn't appeal to me. Neverwinter wasnt what I was looking for. Played EVE online, it has elements I enjoy, but its just spread sheets with a space background. So here is what I "think" I am looking for, though I am open to ideas.

- Sci-Fi.
- Good Character customization.
- A feel of Individuality (not like WoWs only one viable build per class)
- Wide open spaces.
- Enjoyable Combat, something more then stand there and ability sequences
- Vehicles would be awesome, especially flyers

I dont know of many sci-fi MMOs, theyre mostly fantasy. However you could try out Star Trek online and it has the bonus of being Free to play. With only three "classes" the game has a big variety in what you can do in its class confines. For example Ive got a tactical officer who on the ground is built around buffing/debuffing the enemy while a friend of mine that i always run with is more offensive with constant grenade use. I also commonly run with 2 science officer friends (and 1 engineer) and one is healing focused while the other is all offense. I havnt yet played an engineer to high levels but the abilities Im familiar with have them creating fortified positions

In space theres a large variety of abilities and ways to build your starship. Most tacticals run escorts because theyre high damage and high mobility. Most enginners run cruisers that I usually call gunboats with insane survivability, and then theres science vessels that usually take more supportive roles but Ive seen some science vessels shut down huge groups of enemies for limited periods of time.

Theres also a lot of customization for characters. Its not City of heros level but its close.

As far as wide open spaces, it depends on what you doing but there is the illusion of wide open spaces. You can beam down to a planet and explore but theres usually little to see. You can arrive in a sector of space and fly around, looking at planets, moons, and asteroids but theres not much you can do with them.

Now with combat its a mixed bag. I really like space combat. It feels like star trek combat should feel IMO. Ground combat, less so. I dont know what I would do different I just know that it doesnt really work for me. There are some times in which you'll be moving out of aoes but thats about it. Its mostly stand/kneel there while you shoot and use abilities. Although just like City of heros there are various difficulty levels that are fitting

Besides star ships there arent any vehicles to speak of but there are some interesting story lines and obviously it helps if you enjoyed the star trek series set in The next generation, deep space 9, and Voyager series.

I have a number of things I could recommend based on what you've asked for:

Perpetuum [http://www.perpetuum-online.com/] (essentially a slightly simpler/streamlined EVE with Mechs instead of ships)

Dust 514 [http://dust514.com/] (if you own a PS3)

Firefall's Open Beta [http://www.firefallthegame.com/]

DC Universe Online (the Customization is somewhat lacking, but the Combat is quite fun!)

Champions Online (been a while since I played, the combat was a bit better than a regular MMO and the customization is probably the most you'll ever see in any game outside SPORE, and I think it has vehicles now too!)

Have you tried Anarchy Online? It is a Sci-Fi MMORPG I can't tell you much about it as I don't play MMOs but I know people who say it is good
http://www.anarchy-online.com

From the Gameplay details it states:

unparalleled character customization, including 80 character skills, hundreds of special attacks, thousands of items and a wide range of clothes, weapons and armour. No other online game delivers more character customization and depth.

Choose your playing style and select one of 14 different professions. Soldier, Agent, Bureaucrat, Meta-Phycisist, Nano Technician, Doctor, Shade, Engineer, Trader, Adventurer, Fixer, Keeper, Enforcer or Martial Artist...

Instanced dungeon areas mixed with a wide range of static dungeons and quests means that there is always something to do, even for that half hour session.

Fight thousands of exciting monsters in a fantastic player versus monster/environment gameworld, or challenge human opponents to conquer land in large PvP areas

Go solo or join teams and organizations

And the awesome bit (from your post):
Travel in style with futuristic flying vehicles available to all professions, and access all areas efficiently and fast.

Hope this helps
