I'm a huge fan of Intelligent Systems: developers of Fire Emblem and Advance Wars. For a while I've been playing Battle for Wesnoth and i found myself wishing there were more games like this. Are there any out there you'd recommend?

I'm looking for something more Advance Wars/Fire Emblem/Final Fantasy Tactics than Galactic Civilizations: something with instant recruitment or an army of characters to level up without any research or civilization planning to bog down the action. Setting's not important: it can be historical, fantasy, or sci-fi. Oh, and it has to be on the PC or DS, and something besides the aforementioned series, please.

Bonus points, however, if someone can recommend me something more Warhammer 40K-esque. Thanks.

If you have steam i recommened the some-what dated X-Com games... they like incented turn based action and one of them even has a real time mode if you want to replay the game in a whole new way

Rondo of Swords. try it out, it's a little similar to Fire Emblem and it's for the DS.

For the PC: Disciples 2.
Sweet game, and really cheap right now.

For the DS: Advanced Wars.

Rome: Total War is a great game, but it isn't totally turn based. Civilization IV, however, is.

IF you can find a copy, Superpowers for PC was a FANTASTIC turn based strategy game.

I could go into great detail about what the game was about, but let me boil it down to this:

I played through and was able to institute a shadow government in the US and Russia, then mobilize UN forces via my alliances to surround China and weaken them before sending my own troops in to take over the country.

...And I was playing as Canada. Total global conquest as Canada.

I attempted the same thing as Madagascar but the resources to get my secret service up was difficult. I accidentally started a Nuclear war when I was sending out missions.

Advance wars. I've heard that dark conflict/days of ruin is good, but I still use dual strike.
Already played most of 'em. Fire Emblem, too. Recommend me something different

The Fire Emblem games. There's three GBA games and a couple of DS ones that can all be played on the DS, and I'd recommend each and every one of them.

EDIT: Since I somehow missed the Fire Emblem thing when I was reading the OP, I'll recommend some other stuff, but they're older, GBA titles. Obviously still playable on the DS, but old nonetheless.

Anyway, Tactics Ogre and Yggdra Union.

Final Fantasy Tactics.

I played the one for the GBA, but I heard that a new one came out for the DS. I can tell you the GBA version was fun, lasting many, many hours.
