Recommend a Space Sim

I recently just finished Freelancer again and am looking for a different game to play. I have tried to get into eve but it was just not for me. Im looking for a game similar to Freelancer or maybe even one set on the ocean. I have seen the X series of games but they seem to be the only other ones of the style I can find.

Any suggestions would be great.

You could try <link=www.blackprophecy.com>Black Prophecy. It's a free to play MMO, but instead of being RNG based, you're in full control of your ship. I played the first tutorial mission yesterday, and it felt like a cross between the original Wing Commander and the X-Wing series.

Not sure what type of space sim you are looking for. But if you want a star fighter type game try to dig up Descent: Freespace. Awesome game and awesome plot for that type of game.

The video should give you a feel of the plot of the game. Just don't play the rest of the videos in the series if you do plan on picking it up, massive spoilers.

Freespace 2 for space combat, pick it up at GOG. They also have Privateer, for the trader. Maybe try Sid Meier's Pirates! there was a remake about 5 years ago. Otherwise, yeah the X series but they aren't something you just pick up and play.

Oh and Evochron:Mercenary looks great but I haven't tried it.

if you're after a Space Flight Sim then Orbiter is a good one, and free as well.

Vegastrike isn't too bad. It's open source and kinda still being developed, but the galaxy is a vast sandbox with endless possibilities.

I'd actually recommend staying away from anything to do with the X series.
