Tell you what: this one is bloody brilliant.
You might have to read through the first few comics to get the feel of it, but when you do, you'll see its true brilliance.

xkcd
dinosaur comics
questionable content
Least I could do
Looking for group
Dumbing of age

Country
'Merica
Gender
3 children in a trench coat
I recommend Darths and Droids.

It's a web comic about Star Wars as a role playing game. Starts out with Episode 1, and continues to Episode 6. Currently on Episode 3 and updates 3 times a week.

Gone with the Blastwave is also great.

It's a webcomic about a war between 3 rival factions, the reds, blues and yellows, over a ruined post apocalyptic city. Very funny, but unfortunately doesn't update very often.

Finally there's Sinfest.

It's a comic that updates daily. Sometimes it's hilarious, sometimes the jokes fall completely flat, but there's enough funny stuff in there to keep you reading day after day.

Johnny Wander - [link]http://Johnnywander.com[/link] kind of a Journalistic/observational comic but fun to read none the less.

PvPonline - [link]http://pvponline.com[/link] I'll be surprised if people don't know what PvP Online is...

[sub]*cough*shameless plug*cough*[/sub] MiniGames - [link]http://www.brainbolt.co.uk/minigames/[/link]

OK! So it's my webcomic... So sue me...
Granted in the earlier stages I sucked at introducing characters, but later on I like to think the quality improved, unless you read some in the 40-50 region, there's a certain bunch of comics in that section I no longer acknowledge the existence of they were that terrible...

Oh! one more suggestion!

Oglaf - [link]http://oglaf.com/[/link]

Before you click it, NSFW.

It's an Erotic fantasy comedy.
It is really funny though.
But if you don't like seeing naked cartoons you'll be better off not reading it.

You must read Machall and xkcd

Two of the best web comics out there.
Just to expand upon one of this guys suggestions, if you do enjoy Machall, it'd also be worth looking up Three Panel Soul.

It's the comic that the creators of Machall do now.

Tell me about it. I just found out about it a few days ago, and I've been working my way through the archives since then.
How to deal with embarrassment is one of my favourites. I just love the last panel for some reason.

Ah, okay then. I almost thought you hadn't heard about Penny arcade. Which would have been strange.

Edit: Oh right, smbc is very good too.

Not a big fan of webcomics. The amount of nerd rage in most of them turns me off. xkcd is the worst offender for this.

But I do like:

SMBC
Cyanide and Happiness
The Perry Bible Fellowship
Gone with the Blastwave

I don't follow them religiously, but they are funny. I also really like Critical Miss and Shamus Young's old webcomic series, but to be honest, if it wasn't on the home page, I wouldn't go looking for it.

I'd recommend http://www.eqcomics.com and http://www.stationv3.com simply because the others I frequent will be mentioned here and these are rarer. Especially EQ, read it now!!
