Well, I've come into a little money, and rather spend it on a console game(thats why Blockbuster's in my life), i've decided to put some cash into my portable gaming pleasure.
This is kind of straightforward, but examples of game I like are Castlevainia(Side-scrollers in particular, but i've only played OoE of this series, and it's piqued my interest ), the Fire Emblem series(played Shadow Dragon, Excellent game) and the Megaman ZX/Starforce series.

Anyone got anything like that?

Chrono Trigger DS.

Unless you own the original, that is. But still. One of the best RPGs ever.

Then, of course, there are the two (three?) Castlevania games for it. Maybe the second Mario and Luigi game. Other than that, I can't think of anything off the top of my head.

How about Phantom Hourglass? Or save it for Heart Gold and Soul Silver, DS remakes of Pokemon Gold and Silver.
And Chrono Trigger DS.
I heard Days of Ruin is pretty good, I was going to recommend Shadow Dragon but you've already played it.

EDIT: I'm sorry about the double/triple posts, I was trying to edit this one.

-New Super Mario Bros is a great sidescroller platformer.

-OoE was, in my opinion, the worst DS Castlevania yet, so if you enjoyed that you'll probably like the others.

-I recently got GTA: Chinatown Wars, and it's a fantastic game. (It doesn't have much in common with the games you listed, but I loved it and thought I'd throw that out there.)

-If you like the strategy aspect of Fire Emblem, you might want to check out Final Fantasy Tactics A2. Haven't played it personally, but I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Dawn of Sorrow is my favorite of the new Castlevanias. PoR and OoE are great games too, but the soul collecting mechanic is fraking awesome. I'm actually totally shocked that they were able to keep PoR and OoE on par with it despite having new game systems.

Other note worthy games would be the Advanced Wars series. A turn based strategy awesome enough for some one like me, who doesn't play TBS games.

All 3 kirby games are sweet

Pheonix Wright games are great

Puzzle Quest games are great

There is plenty of games from random series that I also recommend: New Super Mario Brothers, Mario Kart, Lost Magic, True Swing Golf (I hate sports games), Geometry Wars Galaxies, Space Invaders Extreme, Meteos, The World Ends With You, Metriod Hunters, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Super Princess Peach (easy, but a lot of fun), and Wario Ware Touched.

Days of Ruin is AMAZING. It's the most balanced Advanced Wars yet. The main campaign is just ok, but the skirmish/multiplayer is insanely addicting.

Oh right, I should probably mention, since you mentioned Chintown Wars, these are game types i prefer for portable systems, but i'm open for other things.

I have played Final Fantasy Tactics Adventure 2: Grimiore of the Rift(I like using the full name cuz it's so long! =D) and that is a great game, especially once you become so over-powered you can obliterate an entire enemy team with 2 units.

Basically, anything with a Fire Emblem/Advance Wars format is fine with me.

Also, Crono Cross i've never played, nor it's DS counterpart, but I've heard amazing things about it(the console version). Is the DS version anything like the original?

OoE was my first of the series, dunno if you played the other 2 for the DS but if you have, which did you prefer?

If you wanna mix it up, try some Elite Beat Agents. Contra 4 is pretty good if you like the series.

ELITE BEAT FUCKING AGENTS!!!!

Ehem, but yes, Elite Beat Agents is a must have for DS owners if you have not purchased it yet.

- Advance Wars (probably best to start with first)
- Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword
- Sonic Rush
- Castlevania series (the rest of them, this is imperative)
- Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
- Chrono Trigger DS
- The World Ends With You
- Hotel Dusk

All of these are awesome, sorry I couldn't really think of similar titles to the ones you suggested.

It's pretty much the same minus a few extras, and definitely recommended.

Picross DS, Mario Kart DS (if you're one of 3 people on Earth who doesn't have it), the Ace Attorney games (seriously, they're awesome), Chrono Trigger is the greatest RPG ever.

This man speaks the truth. Elite Beat Agents is made of win and epic. Buy it now and picket outside of Nintendo offices for a sequel.

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin is fucking hard. To the point of being ridiculous. I've beaten all the other Advance Wars games, and I can't even get past mission 16 on DoR.

Oh, right, suggestions.

Trauma Center: Under the Knife I and II are great games, assuming you have the patience to be defeated by viruses on each level.

Both of these, but especially Henry Hatsworth, which is criminally under appreciated but is bursting with charm, fun, challenge, and steampunk mecha units.

Can't go wrong with Chrono Trigger either, even if you're not a big RPG person. The DS version has a really great retranslation, and though one of the extra dungeons is mostly a giant pain, the second one is actually pretty good. Both are totally optional anyways, so don't let that stop you from experiencing a great game. I don't think any other 14 year old game holds up as well as CT does.

well if you love turnbased combat i'd say make Square enix richer by buying the early Final fantasys they remade and Dragon quest 4. Oh of course Age of Empires for the DS i liked and is a very good "port".
