Like the title says, I'm looking for a f2p mmo to play with my friends that is not Guild Wars 2. Anyone has any recommendations?

My 3 recommendations are:

Spiral Knights (Somewhat grindy Dungeon Crawler MMO)

Global Agenda (essentially a futuristic TF2 with Jetpacks)

Tribes: Ascend (Very fast paced MMOFPS)

Hero in a half shell

It's not easy being green

I'm holding out for the Old Republic's F2P unveiling. That should tide me over for a good while when it comes out.

i think you 2 may need your eyes checked, he said f2p mmo, not shooters, mmo.

on topic: aion is a pretty good mmo, a bit heavy on the role playing but good none the less.

champions online was also pretty fun and it has a ton of self parodying, something i love.

eden eternal is also one i had fun playing with my brother, you can even switch between classes freely in this one.

also id recommend checking out mmogrinder here: http://mmogrinder.net/

he does reviews almost exclusively on f2p mmos, he even has reviews of the 3 above games

There's always LotRO.

Free quest zone content will last until about lvl 30. After that you'll have to get Quest Packs.
You can earn currency to buy content through playing (no cash is actually required).
Even considering the above statement, it would be advisable to get at least 1 month of VIP as this will get you several useful bonuses.

Blacklight [http://www.dotmmo.com/blacklight-retribution-2268.html] and TF2 [http://mmohuts.com/review/team-fortress-2] are MMOs. T_T

Maybe not the kind that he wanted but they are MMOs.

And how easy is it to get quest packs without paying real life monies?

They're free to play shooters, 24/32 players is not massively multiplayer, that would make Battlefield like super double MMO.

Maybe because it's an MMOFPS...

Planetside is an MMOFPS, 32/64 players is not massive, it's pretty damn standard.

On topic: Try to get into the Planetside 2 beta.

He never specified a Genre, only that they have to be MMOs. That's why I suggested a pair of MMOFPS games.

So that explains why it's titled mmofps on every mmo website. makes sense.
Well they need to generate something to talk about, one way of doing that is sticking MMO on things that aren't. :p

It'll take some playing and at times it can seem a bit grindy, but if you and your friends all play together, it'll make it easier.

In each zone (that you have access to), you can do a set of deeds [http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Deeds] that will gain you from 5-25 TP as well as Virtues that can upgrade your character.
Find all landmarks? Have some TP. Complete X quests? Have some TP. Kill X things? Have some TP. Gain reputation? Have some TP.

Barring sales in the store (which rotate weekly, or special 1-day sales), individual quest packs will cost anywhere from 595-1995 Turbine Points (TP). The more they cost, generally means that more deeds they have to earn more TP.

Ah alright then, I did have a months subscription before it changed and deeds did seem to be the more grindy of things to do. Might give it a look back into. Cheers!

Vindcitus, and DFO are the 2 i'd recommend.

Vindictus due to combat, i've only found one that's 'as good' as Vindictus combat wise, and that's C9, which i can't recommend cause i've not had enough time with it yet(about 6 hours).

and DFO cause, >.> well just cause really.
