Hey there, i've always had an interest in the huge genre that is anime, but there's just so much of it I was hoping that somebody out there could just recommend a few good series. I know that there are loads of different types of anime out there, so i'll tell you the sort of thing i'm after. I'm looking for something that was made fairly recently (just for the sake of animation quality) and is English dubbed, these are musts. I'm not too fussy about the subject matter though. Aliens, robots, demons whatever. I recently found a series call Hellsing by pure chance and that was just brilliant which is why i'm looking for new series to watch now. I'm aware of popular ones such as Avatar, but i was looking for something aimed at a much older generation, something that isn't afraid of lots of blood and guts and more adult subject matter. Hellsing fitted this very nicely. I particularity liked the highly stylised look to it.

I guess to summarize, i'm really just looking for a English dubbed anime series known for its balls to the wall action.

Cheers!

Full Metal Alchemist. Get that now! Probably the best series I've seen. Also I started re watching Dragonball Z, and thats definitely worth a look too. Can be a bit slow at times but the story is epic.

I don't really care for any anime but what I do like is great.

1.) Cowboy Bebop
2.) Gundam Wing (Nostalgia hard)
3.) Gundam 00

I'm long past my anime/manga phase, but I really enjoyed Death Note. However, the manga was better IMO. Still a cool anime though!
Ninja'd. I would also say Code Geass for something similar, but with fan service.

I enjoyed Gundam Wing when younger, which is weird because I somehow find the over the top philosophy and politics MORE boring now. I have found Gundam 00 more enjoyable recently since it's the same basic idea as Wing, but it has better characters and is split into two seasons so it doesnt drag on.

For the drama, I recommend Kanon (great quality, and great english acting) and the recently dubbed Clannad (even better quality)

I cannot recommend recent ones, but I will still recommend these. Some of the are recent, some others are not, some quite not.

First of all, Neon Genesis Evangelion. Probably the best anime I have seen EVER, Hellsing nearly topping it out but not quite. I recommend you watching the Rebuilds, they are probably the best version yet, as the first one was released in 2007-2008 and the second last year. They are not quite fucked up like the old series, but I still recommend watch both, The Rebuild and the Original series.

Then there's Death Note, very enjoyable.
Samurai Champloo can be a recommendation, but unfortunately I haven't finished it.
Darker than Black can also be fun, but it isn't as good as the previous animes, and do not watch the sequel, it's terrible.
Elfen Lied has a lot of gore, blood and nudity. It's a great anime, but not for the easily offended, but as you say Hellsing you are probably going to love this one.

Also, did you watch Hellsing Ultimate or the TV series?

Digimon Tamers (Digimon season 3). The plot is deep and dark, while the characters are very excellently developed. Very good season of Digimon.

I agree with you on that point since Wing can get pretty boring. I mostly blame Relena.

I watched both of them, but i definitely enjoyed the Ultimate series a lot more. I haven't finished those ones yet since I can't find all the episodes in Endlish, i'm somebody who has a real problem with subtitles unfortunately.

I would recommend Soul Eater, I'm not sure if there is a dub available but if memory serves me right there should be. If it wasn't because it was canceled, I would also highly recommend Berserk, but I'm not sure if it's entirely true to the manga, but there is a dub. The Berserk manga from what I've read is very exciting, and if you're open to manga I would recommend that you take a peek at Berserk and Death Note.

Eh, a lot of people will recommend Elfen Lied, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and Death Note. That's because they're all pretty good and intense. They're more 'mature' and EL and DN take themselves pretty seriously.

I'd throw in Soul Eater, Fairy Tale, Vampire Knight, Zombie Loan and some of the Hack series. They're all fun and good fillers if you're bored.

My personal favourite is Bleach, but we have a love hate relationship. Sometimes it is awesome and sometimes it is dire.

A new one is Highschool of the Dead. Zombies, of course. It's only on episode 2 in the anime but I hear the manga was pretty good. They even use the music from 28 Days Later at one point. My only problem is the over showing of school girl underwear and cleavage. It's pretty gross when you realise the girls are meant to be underage (at least in the UK).

I would recommend watch them with subtitles though, since Japanese almost always is better than in English, and more importantly, there are always a translation error. So I'd recommend watch them with subtitles, so start practicing now. Oh, and the Rebuild of Evangelion 2.22 hasn't got translation BTW, and Alucard sounds a lot more awesome in Japanese.

Alright thanks very much. I think I'll try Neon Genesis Evangelion, Death Note and Elfen Lied. I've looked them up on youtube and they look pretty sweet.

Thanks again

I usually suggest Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, but the dub on that one isn't very good.

You should definitely check out Baccano! The dub is top quality, and the story is quite intense. Plus, it has Isaac and Miria, two of the greatest comic relief characters in the history of fiction.
