So it's come to that time of year people...no decent new games are coming out for the next 2-3 months and I've played through a large game library (what with it being the summer holidays and all). So I ask you Escapists to recommend me a game either PC or Xbox 360. I'm not too picky about genre but RPG, stealth and free roam are my personal favourites however I will play most any game.

Also just for discussion value, give me a reason as to why you like the game you are recommending.

InB4: "Isn't this thread just talk about your favourite game?" Yes but you're also helping me to relieve boredom so you can feel good about yourself :)

No decent new games? Are you serious? Guild Wars 2, Borderlands 2, Hitman Absolution, Dishonoured, Torchlight 2.. There's plenty of great stuff coming out in the next three months.

Thief Gold Edition, Mount & Blade, Final Fantasy 7 re-release or Shadows of the Damned. Three good, old PC time-sinks and a 360 pick up and play you can rent or buy cheap.

The Thief series, because they are (one of?) the best stealth games around.

The Hitman series because they are very close to Thief in terms of stealth awesomeness.

Daggerfall/Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim because it's RPG and free roam to the bones. Any of them.

Bloodlines - because: awesome RPG. Just make sure to pick up the Unofficial Patch [http://www.patches-scrolls.de/vampire_bloodlines.php].

Arcanum - same as above, including it's own UP [http://www.shsforums.net/topic/33528-arcanum-unofficial-patch-extras/?s=939c72e7377917b07e022f028f7ead5be].

I hope that helps.

I think he meant that no decent games will be coming out until 2-3 months into the future.

I hope you don't think me rude but I went ahead and peeked at your Xbox Live profile to see what you have and haven't played.

Anyways, I recommend Fallout 3 and L.A. Noire. Those games are pretty fun. Also, I saw you played a titch of Crackdown. It might be a good idea to get back into it as well as Crackdown 2. I had very much fun in that game.

Hope you find a game you like. :D

Oh. Oh my, this is embarrassing. I don't know what I was thinking. For some reason my brain blacked out and I completely forgot that the games you mentioned do indeed come out within 2 months. I apologize for that.

Limbo was surprisingly good. I thought I would have found it a little boring, but it was great. I also recommend Beautiful Katamari, Dragon Age Origins, and Bastion. Beautiful Katamari because that game is one of the most insanely fun games I've ever played (as well as just being insane), Dragon Age Origins because the characters and world are some of the best I've ever seen (not particularly original, but awesome nonetheless), and Bastion because the story, narration, music, and gameplay all go so well together.

Oh, and Portal 1 & 2 if you haven't played them yet (you better have fuckin' played them lol)

Holy hell man! He said for the next 2-3 months not the next 2-3 years lol. Each proper play through takes at least... what? 30-ish hours? AND YOU DON'T JUST HAVE ONE PLAY THROUGH ('cept maybe for Oblivion)

The slashes were meant to indicate "or". Not all of them. Also why I referred to them as a single game. And you just add more mods then and make the game more awesome. Well, in Oblivion's case you add mods to make it not crap first.

Portal and Cathrine are fun puzzle games with great story.
Dark Souls has great combat and exploration.
Red Dead Redemption has a great vibe to it.

Dude, get the original Deus Ex. I haven't played much yet, but so far it's fucking wicked. There's quite a bit of stealth, very GOOD stealth for a game of it's time, with no free roam but some definite RPG elements as far as character customization.

It's only available from Squenix's online store, which I think requires yet another client besides Steam, GFWL and Origin (which almost all PC gamers have by this point; they really don't need a fourth) and it also comes loaded down with SecuROM. You'd be better off getting a PS1 and a copy of the game from eBay.

Company of Heroes. You can get it and its expansions for cheap on Steam. Bone up on the game before the sequel comes out. It's probably the best RTS to come out in the entirety of the past decade. It takes the usual RTS formula and add tons of new elements and has excellent graphics and animation.

Nah, just its own launcher. Besides, modders are working on getting mods they made for the old PC release, for the new release. PLus, it's only $10 for an all time classic, and one of my favorite games of all time.

Morrowind. It's like Skyrim and Oblivion, but good. EYE Divine Cybermancy. It's the most interesting game of 2011, rather cheap, runs on shitty hardware and has tons of content. Saint's Row 3. It's fun. A lot of fun. It's dumb, empty fun, but it's damn good dumb empty fun. Fez. It's on XBLA, cheap, looks and sounds great and is deeper than you think it is. It's kinda short though. Dark Souls. It's not as hard as people say it is, has a lot of content and a great combat system. It's full-price though and will likely strain your patience. Halo: Reach. Best Halo IMO, actually has a tolerable story and again, lots of content. Forge and Theater are the best things console FPS' ever brought to the genre so you can't go wrong there either. Red Dead Redemption. It's the best R* game yet and has atmosphere, content, content and content. Did I mention there was a lot of content in RDR? Shouldn't be too expensive anymore either. SSX. Same as Saint's Row 3.

That's about all I can think of right now.

Some people managed to buy the game because Squenix accidentally posted it for sale early. They wound up not being able to play the game, because SecuROM. It was in the Escapist's newsreel a week or two back. Game's got SecuROM. And apparently, they hardly put any effort into the port - even if it is cheap, and a classic, I still recommend the original PS1 version over it.

Yeah, but it's so much harder to mod the PS1 version, which still costs a lot more than $10.
